How do we knoe exactly that Leatho was that old? It really dosn't say anything about him being old in High Rhulain.

Life is too short to rush through it.

I really should reread High Rhulain, but at the moment, I'm not really sure.

Someone previously had said that Leatho was a sea otter and Tiria was a river otter, therefore they couldn't marry. But I'm wondering: in the real world, can sea otters and river otters mate?

Why can't they marry in the Redwall series? I don't remember anything about that.

I didn't say they couldn't, I said that someone else had said that they couldn't. (And I was wondering if that's the case in the real world.) See the quote below:

Tiria was a river otter and Leatho was a sea otter, if that makes any difference, and Leatho was older than Tiria.
I think they were just good friends, and Leatho showed Tiria the death ceremony because he saw that she was upset and wanted to help.

Well, that disn't mean that its true; there dosn't seem to be any huge differents between Sea Otters and River Otters, exept that they live in different places.

I think that would make a beautiful Romeo and Juliet type fic. :D In the Redwall universe, Tiria was descended from sea otters, so it's clear they can interbreed. As for in the real world, I actually don't know. I don't know if it'd be like matching up a rabbit with a hare (impossible) or an Irish hare with an Antelope Jackrabbit (possible.) I don't suppose anybody wants to run that question by their science teacher? ;D
Redwall is always open, its tables laden, to you and any of good heart.

Ungatt Trunn

@Osu: Well, you also have to keep in mind that the Redwall universe probably doesn't rely on science. There are allot of stuff in Redwall the science says is imposable, but is completely real in imagination. Though, I'm sure that BJ would have at least some scientifically true points to the Redwall series.

Except, I wouldn't have them die at the end like in the story of R & J.

True...

But if her father was a river otter and her mother was a sea otter that means they can marry.

Really? I didn't remember that about her mother. I need to re-read that book.
