The Hobbit is not a ripoff!!! Its a great movie! How can somebody think that about the Hobbit?

  Lol, they were probably joking, saying that it's a ripoff due to the fact that they have many of the same characters and the same sort of storyline.  If they weren't joking, they obviously didn't know that The Hobbit was a prequel.  They probably thought, "Well, this is stupid, someone stole the idea from LotR and just turned it into another trilogy!"
