I know, I know, I voted quite some time ago so I was just stating the best advantages of those... I'd definitely alter my choices.  ;)
They told me I was gullible. I believed them.

It is well known that 47% of statistics are made up on the spot.

I used to leave out half my sentances, but now I

I just noticed how popular the long bow is...

Life is too short to rush through it.

Delthion

My favorite is a spear after watching how much damage you can do with it on Red Cliff.

Great thread. I voted for the longbow, rapier, and spear for the following reasons:

Longbow - I like long-range weapons because, well, one can hit enemies from far away (:P). This does have disadvantages, but I think it's overall a benefit to be able to damage an opponent without needing to get too close. One main problem of this weapon might be running out of arrows. Also, I've always wondered if it's annoying for an archer to have to carry around his bow all the time (Unless a sheath exists for the weapon?). Slings are cool, too, but bows might be more powerful (Not sure though). Also, I hardly know anything about crossbows. They do have a longer reload time but they may also have advantages over the longbow. I see many others agree with me about the longbow being a great weapon...I wonder why so many people voted for it.

Oh, and the rapier is my favorite sword, as I explained in the thread in Cavern Hole.

I was between the spear and the scimitar but went with the former this time. I was intrigued by the topic that Skarzs made about this underrated weapon. It is also good for fighting at a distance, which seems more my style (Though I am willing to be flexible and have a variety).

Crossbows have a much longer reload time than longbows (about thirty seconds, I believe), but they're more powerful than longbows, and don't require as much strength to shoot.

Gonff the Mousethief

Battle Axe, Longbow, and Sgain Dunh. I have all three, and they all seem to be good weapons. Plus, I have a certain bias when it comes to them.  ;D
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

Skyblade

You HAVE them? That's amazing! How so?

And good point, Iz!

The best weapon is, of course, the dagger. It is not only beautiful and easy to hide, but it is also a quick battle ender... its reduced length and weight both make you take a step forward, but they also provide you with the ability of swing fast and precise stabs.

Debatable. Daggers have pathetic range, not to mention it can't really block weapons which are more than it's size,  e.g. swords, dirks, polearms, spears etc.

But you can have the dagger concealed until it's needed... if you manage to stab your opponent with it before he even realizes that you are the enemy, then none of the above would matter. You can't really do that with a sword or any of the longer, stronger weapons.

But the situation isn't always  like that. That's why there's no such thing as a best weapon, situations and people are always differing.

With that, I agree ;)

The Skarzs

I would definitely keep a dagger as a sidearm, as was historically accurate, but half-swording is effective too if you don't have a dagger.

I chose the mace, the spear, and the hand-and-a-half sword (aka a longsword). The mace is a fearsome bludgeoning weapon, and would be good against armored opponents, and I like the weight. The spear can be an impressively useful weapon, so that has my vote. And the longsword is a real classic: can't deny its elegance and deadly slice.

How much more powerful are long swords than short swords?

Wylder Treejumper

Significantly better in your average open-field battle, the usefulness of a longsword diminishes in less open areas, such as the woods. In confined areas or close quarters, it becomes more of a hinderance than a weapon. The length gives it more reach and power, but it is also a bit heavier (Though not much) and more disadvantageous in not totally open spaces.
