Garth took a handkerchief from his pocket; it was something he had always kept clean, for it was once his mother's. He wiped her eyes softly. "I'm sorry, Arya."

Arya sniffled, "It's okay. It happened a long time ago. But I just keep thinking, What if i could have done something? Anything."

Garth spoke thoughtfully. "If you could have done anything, I don't think it would have stopped your brother's death; you might have been killed as well. Nothing could have been done, and he knew it as well. I think your brother is looking at you now, wondering why you are sad he saved your life." He forced a smile, pushing back his own haunting memories.

"perhaps.." Arya said, then tearfully smiled. "Thank you, Garth."

Garth only smiled back, scooting his chair a little closer.

Arya drew in a deep breath, thinking back over that day, shutting her eyes for a moment, then opening them

"Are you hungry?" Garth held up the platter of food.

"A little." Arya confessed, taking the tray and startin to eat the food in small, neat bites.

BIC: Bella walked in just as Arya began to eat. "Do you two wounded youngbeasts want anything to drink?"
"Is tea alright?" Garth glanced at Arya.

"Sure. Tea's fine." Arya said,pausing long enough to smile at the two, then went back to eating.

Bella went to get her kettle, and set it atop the fire. "I'll be back; don't you two run away now," she teased. She smacked Garth's paw away from the bandage he had been messing with. "No; if you pick at it, it won't heal." She flounced off.

Arya finished her food and smiled. "My, my. Fierce, isn't she?" She teased.

Garth rubbed his paw. "No kidding; I wouldn't be surprised if she's scared off vermin bands just by scolding them." He chuckled. "That would be something to see. 'You scallywags better not cause any trouble, or I'll make you mop the floors, weed the garden, chop wood. . .'"
"Aye, and I'd make 'em wash the laundry too." Garth nearly jumped out of his chair when Bella suddenly appeared next to them as if from nowhere.

Arya laughed. Garth had jumped a mile, and looked so startled!

"Hee hee, I wondered what you would do when you noticed me there," Bella chuckled. "The water's ready; I'll go get the cups."
Garth eyed Bella suspiciously, then looked at Arya's gleeful face. He smiled, a little embarrassed.
