What's the difference? Excuse my ignorance - I've never seen either of them. :-\

::) ^^^^

Rusvul

Uhm... They're completely different sci-fi series each set in completely unique environments. Not so much apples and oranges, but apples and pears.

And Gwen... HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE VOYAGER!  :o... Sorry got a bit carried away with my geekyness. Voyager was my favorite and Janeway was my favorite captain (Picard was good still not better though). Don't get me wrong the rest are all great except for captain Jonathan Archer, he sucked, and Sisko He was a bit weird. No offence to any DS9 fans. He was OK I just didn't get the whole Bajoran religious thing.

Voyager was all right, but the crew kinda ruined it for me. I mean, a female Klingon, a black Vulcan, and a female captain are suddenly all important characters? Come on. Not that I have anything against any of that- it just seemed like they were trying to stuff as much political correctness into the crew as possible.

The variation in the Voyager's crew is explained- Some of them were Maquis, remember.

Faiyloe

What Russ said plus I think It made it more colorful and interesting and the Klingon (Belana (Spelling?)) was half human.
I am back... sort of... maybe... Hi?

Rusvul

Yessss.... More colorful, and a little shift from the normal is great, I think.

Faiyloe

I loved how you got to see the characters personal lives and all the things that they struggled will being on the other side of the galaxy.

I've seen the Star Trek films, but they don't really grab me. All though most of the Star Wars don't do that, I just enjoy watching Star Wars more. Also I sobbed at the end of Star Wars 3.

Sorry, but SW and ST should not even be compared ST is SO much better. (Unfortunately I cannot provide an objective opinion, I have never seen any of the ST movies.)
Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

That's probably because the Star Trek films are bad. In comparison to the show, at least. I mean, they're alright. But in order to become a movie, they basically removed any kind of moral dilemma or diplomacy- There are some Star Trek episodes about open war, but they're by far in the minority.  And they're not the ones that are really good. If you're gonna watch a ST movie, the Next Gen movies are MUCH better than the recent ones.

What's interesting is that Star Trek and Star Wars are basically the opposite in terms of how their franchise works. Trek is based first and foremost on the TV series, and the films were something of an add-on. The box office numbers back that up; most of the Trek films did fairly well, but weren't anything out of the ballpark. Wars is based primarily on the films. They have had a few TV series, but they're fairly mediocre. When people think Star Wars they think of the movies.

As far as which Trek films are the best, if you ask me, I think the original six Trek films, from what I've heard about and seen of them, fit that. What's ironic about it is that TOS is known for being the original "monster-of-the-week" sci-fi show, but its films were relatively deep and thoughtful, while TNG was alleged to be more sophisticated, but its films were mostly action flicks. People who like Picard probably expect to see him drinking tea and quoting Shakespeare, not shooting things up with a tommy gun. I think that probably has a lot to do with who was in charge of the Trek franchise, though. The TOS films were made when Roddenberry was still alive, and at that point in his life he never would have dreamed of making a shoot-em-up film. The people that succeeded him didn't have such compunctions.

I prefer Star Trek (thinking of the series, not the recent films). I finally watched the original Star Wars films a few years ago and wasn't particularly impressed. A tad overrated, dare I say. The Star Trek series I feel you can get quite into the episodes. I've watched two of the '80s films and the one with the whale was not too bad. The more recent films, I found the first one a little boring, though the sequel was better.

Yes, especially Nemisis. The Enterprise-E that they used is my favorite ship.
