"Fifty-seven, plus you, me, Duncan, Skipper, Fangfang, Bracklew, Ava, and Mother. Threescore an' another five, not counting all the slaves."
The young fox turned to Bracklew.
"How many does Rapshade have, apart from the dead ones here?"

[Ashleg]

"How would he know?" Fangfang asked, sounding offended.
"If anybeast would know that, 'tis me--I'm not as dumb as ya think."

[Groddil]

One-Ear slapped his head.
"Sorry, Fangfang, I completely forgot. Jus' heard Bracklew talkin' is all. So how many does he have? Hurry, Redwall is waiting on us."

One-Ear turned to Chrysanthe.
"I hope they're as good as you say they are, friend. We're still outnumbered at least three to one. Now, we really should be on the march. Quicker we get there, less time there is for Rapshade to breach the walls."
The fox stepped back and waited idly on the path to Redwall.

Mortembell had dragged the unconscious Begskin up to the Infirmary and chained him to a bed net to Muddle. He would talk when the time came. Now she sat in Great Hall, licking her wounds.
"Ava, we should round up the other Redwallers. Somebeast really needs to reinforce that gate."

"Oh, they are, believe me." Log-a-Log Chrysanthe nodded reassuringly.
"Those vermin are up against a load of shrews, a badger, and Redwallers--the best group of warriors in all of Mossflower!"

Duncan agreed and stepped onto the path after Log-a-Log and One-Ear, glancing back at Skipper and Bracklew.
"Coming?"

"I am," Fangfang said, shuffling up behind Duncan.
