You, Daskar, and Galli split up and investigate the crates. Before long, you hit the jackpot. But, despite your success, you cannot find a Quantum Carbonizer, the last part you need to finish the shrink ray. You meet up with your associates again to discuss the issue...

Baliss found a Shrink Ray Trigger, a Repressive Cytometer, and a Subversive Flow Re-director.

Daskar inspects the parts you have available.
"Well, if I'm not mistaken, the Quantum Carbonizer, along with the Imperial Electrocore, is what actually makes this thing work properly. You'd need to take the Carbonizer from the Chainaxe to actually finish the Shrink Ray. But that would ruin the Chainaxe."
Galli decides to pipe up.
"Or... You could jury-rig the shrink ray without a Carbonizer. It wouldn't be able to shrink anything, but you could at least make things bigger."

Take the Quantum Carbonizer from the Chainaxe, allowing you to finish the Shrink Ray, but making the Chainaxe useless for good.
Jury-rig the Shrink Ray without the Quantum Carbonizer. This will overclock the Subversive Flow Re-director, meaning the Shrink Ray will only be able to make things bigger.

OOC: Just as a notice, with the Quantum Carbonizer, the "Shrink Ray" can make things smaller AND bigger. Without it, it can only make things bigger.

I think the shrink ray's more powerful than the chainaxe, and easier for someone like Baliss to use. I vote for finishing the shrink ray.

(What keeps you from taking the parts out of the shrink ray later, though, and putting them into the chainaxe to fix it?)

The Quantum Carbonizer creates a massive electrical surge when disconnected from a device. In other words, it breaks all the electrical and mechanical components. You could take it out of the shrink ray to use in something else later, but considering how rare shrink ray/chainaxe parts are (who ELSE on the forum uses a chainaxe?), it would more or less mean you could never replace them. You COULd find another electrocore for the chainaxe though, if you remember to find replacement parts on your way out. It'd just mean that the shrink ray would be half as effective, but you keep the chainaxe to fix later.

"In that case, take this. I found it in one of the crates, but forgot to mention it."

Baliss got a Chainaxe Motherboard, an Electrical Cable, and a Small Motor.

"Cool. I'll hold onto these in case I can find a use for them."
You turn to Galli.
"So...what's this about jury-rigging this thing?"
"Well..."

A short distance later, you have managed to jury-rig the Shrink Ray and get it working.

Baliss got the Jury-Rigged Growth Ray.

It's time. You raise the Growth Ray. Daskar raises his sword. Galli raises her (butter) knife. You pull the trigger, causing a bolt of green energy to slam into the tiny door. Before your eyes, it grows, cracking the wall until it is now your size. You approach the door pull it open towards you. Behind it is solid rock, apart from a tiny doorway behind where the door originally was. You shrug, and stick the growth ray nozzle into the hole. You pull the trigger. A rumbling sound emits from the doorway, and several seconds later, a sparkling thing shoots out, just before the tiny doorway seals up. The sparkling thing turns out to be a fairy. Before she can speak, Daskar coughs.
"Well, that doesn't seem to be a useful way of defeating Skarz. I say you enlarge your foot and step on him."
The fairy flies in front of your eyes, making you dizzy.
"Wait! I overheard your conversation, doing that would make your foot ridiculously large forever. Let me he-"
Daskar silences her with a click.
"Don't listen to her, Baliss. Among the other, mostly useless, serums I discovered, there was one that can restore something to its original status. You could defeat Skarz, then inject yourself with the serum. Restore your parts to their normal size."
Galli shrugs.
"Or you could hear her out BEFORE you make your decision."
You nod. Daskar goes to speak again, but Galli waves her butter knife under his snout threateningly. The fairy looks grateful.
"Thank you. As I was saying, let me help. I know Skarz. I have... some semblance of control over him. I can tell him something, and more than likely, he'll do it. I can make him stop trying to kill you."
Daskar rolls his eyes.
"What's in it for you?"
"Why do you assume I'm trying to gain something?"
"Hmph. Here's the serums. I hope you do the right thing. Don't trust her..."

Baliss got the Zombie Slave Serum and the Restoration Serum.

Grow your foot to massive proportions, stomp on Skarz, then use the serums to restore yourself and have him open the hatch.
Have Faiyloe make Skarz stop trying to kill you, and have him open the hatch that way.

Skarz grunts, and stomps the ground angrily.
"Skarz!"
Skarz stares at Faiyloe, then at you. He growls.
"Skarz, look at me. Not at them!"
The troll glares at Faiyloe, shakes his head, then snorts.
"Skarz! Those people are our friends. FRIENDS! We don't hurt friends."
Skarz nods once.
"I mean it."
He nods again.
Faiyloe motions for you to come down the ladder, which you do. Skarz simply looks at you, as you walk towards the hatch. As you expected, you are not strong enough to budge it. You look back at Skarz, who tightens his grip on his hammer. Faiyloe cackles.
"Why'd ya do it?"
"Do what?"
"Destroy my room."
"Huh? We didn't kn-"
"Hush! Skarz... KILL!"
Skarz roars, and charges at you.

Zap yourself with the Growth Ray and kill Skarz.
Zap Skarz's anvil with the Growth Ray until it destroys the floor, giving you an escape route.
