So, do you play a musical instrument? I play violin, and I want to learn guitar. :)
Used to play a recorder.....(stops posting)

Heeey! Recorders rock! They can be so much cooler than what most people think. I play five different kinds of recorder at an intermediate-advanced level:
Sopranino recorder
Soprano recorder (the kind you get in fourth grade, but they sound awesome if you actually know what you're doing)
Alto recorder
Tenor recorder
Bass recorder
I've played recorders multiple times for church and was in an early music ensemble in college that consisted mostly of recorders, lute, krummhorn, sackbutt (a predecessor to the trombone, yeah, you're allowed to giggle at the name), harp and voice. So yes, recorders can be pretty rockin' instruments if you know what you're doing on them.
I also play trumpet and euphonium (my main instrument), am middling at the piano, and will hopefully be picking up the tuba as soon as I can get my hands on one.
My mother has an alto recorder. I have a soprano and a sopranino. I like them, but lately I can't be bothered practising... :P
I'm most competent at guitar, both acoustic and electric. That would be my main instrument.
I'm a pretty reasonable singer too.
Other instruments I can play to some degree as well are bass guitar, drums, piano/synths, harmonica and various percussion instruments (including the drums).
I've played piano for 10 or 11 years now. This is my 8th year on clarinet. I played alto sax through Junior High, but got to busy to keep up with it. :'(
I also used to play recorder.....
I find it really funny that people give that instrument to small children. That's one of the most painful instrument when played incorrectly and I have yet to hear a child play it in a none painful way. I have a friend who plays the recorder in an amazingly beautiful way, though, so I'm not completely against the instrument!
hmm, well ima percussionist, so look that up and u get the whole slew of instuments i play xD.
i also play piano. have for about 5 months now. i can play my immortal, charlie brown theme, memory of light and waves, and am learning pachelebels canon in c now. its pretty fun o.o
my first instrument was drumset. still play it. started when i was 3, and i sucked xD. eh i play a few other things but its insignificant to what i can do with the other ones. im in choir too.
i'm learning guitar and want to learn ungh i cant think of the name right now

ok i still dont remember the name but u play it like ok u put it on your lap and have like a little bar u move acrose the strings while u have little pics on your fingers and play it like a banjo its mainly in bluegrass or country
I love playing the piano. I have played for almost 3 three years, I started late and I always wish I started when I was young. I truly have a passion for practicing and I don't mind, if I have the time, to sit for hours and learn. I even have a youtube channel where I am starting to post video's of what I play.
I also play in my church's band, but mainly I use a synthesizer on the keyboard for that.

Did you know that the piano is in fact a percussion instrument?
*deep breath*
I play bass, guitar, trumpet, cornet, tenor horn, (descant) recorder, bamboo flute, harmonica, pan pipes, cello, a little piano, xylophone/glockenspiel... and I think I missed one there. I always manage to miss one. I sing too. Maybe that was it. In any case I'm mainly focusing on voice, bass and guitar at the moment. I seem to play a lot of what Daniel plays. :D
What's a glockenspiel? ???
A glockenspiel and a xylophone are pretty much the same thing. Except a glockenspiel is metal, and a xylophone is wooden.
Also, the glockenspiel has those notes in between the others (I don't know what they're called), like the black notes on a piano or keyboard.
the true Q is HOW THE HECK CAN U GUYS SPELL THAT!
ah ken
I can play piano. I'm a little out of practice since I stopped lessons.
I also taught myself harmonica.
And I taught myself that baby xylophones can be musical instruments.
I can sing. I don't sound awful but I don't sound amazing. But that doesn't stop me and I sing all the time.
the glock is a bell set. easier to say
I play Bb clarinet :3
I play guitar and piano.
I took piano lessons for about a year almost five years ago, but over the past year I've picked up guitar and started playing piano again. I'm pretty happy with where I'm at, but I can always use more practice.
i am learnin drums
I play the clarinet and the piano. And I love both!
Piano. My dad plays the clarinet and piano.
And to clarify, I'm not his dad.
Heeheehee. :D
xD rofl
i played the recorder soprano and the alto but currently playing clarinet
I play the trumpet. Been doing it since 2nd grade. I'm really advanced at it.
I play a bit of guitar and i started playing baritone tuba a few months ago.
I can play the ocarina.
I'm learning to play the guitar right now... Progressing slowly, but still progressing. :)
I have played the Piano and am currently playing saxophone and French Horn
I play piano, electric bass guitar, and clarinet. I absolutely love clarinet!
I play the trumpet, I played the recorder in fourth grade, but that was so long ago I don't remember how at all.
i wish i could play clarinet, woodwinds are my favorite kind of instrument, and clarinet is THE AWESOMEST WOODWIND EVER!
i also play the Djembe drum, though i dont practice much.
I play piano, flute, piccolo (I'm going to be playing in a local parade next week :D), and recorder (I've played soprano, alto, and tenor).
hope you have fun in the parade! ;D
Yeah! Have fun at the parade! That sounds very fun!
affirmative. I've never played at a parade, sounds fun though!
just had an audition
Nice! What instrument?
both saxophone and French Horn at the same time (that was exhausting)
what do you play i play the guitar ;D ;D ;D
Piano and cello, and I'm currently teaching myself the ocarina.
I play piano, flute, piccolo, and recorder (I've done soprano, alto, and tenor recorders).
I play piano, Bb clarinet, electric bass guitar, and the recorder (well, I don't play it anymore, but I can). I can also sing, but I don't like doing that as much as playing instruments. ;)
Really all I can do is sing. At my school, they teach us Taiko drumming, but I'm pretty bad. I'll usually manage to stumble along, though, when I have a team that's playing.
i play piano and i can sort of play guitar. i'm really bad at guitar though :P
I (tam) play the violin and am starting the cello. Martin plays the piano.
Oh! I forgot to add that I can play air guitar too. ;)
Well I can play the paper jam guitars and drums lol I can play a little bit of snare the orchestra bells piano (kinda) and recorder (soprano I believe)
I play piano.. I'm teaching myself guitar (I try to every Sat., but it seems like once a month).
I play the violin. 8) It's awesome.

Really! It's not exactly a common instrument, I didn't think anyone here would play it.

That's why I was surprised that you did it at your school. I live in Japan, so I have easy access to lessons and performances, but I didn't think it was a big thing elsewhere, especially in schools. I think it's great that you get to experience it! I love it.
What do you play? if it's percussion or strings, specify what... ;D :D
I play piano (intermediate, I'd say), bass guitar (intermediate), and Bb clarinet (advanced).
I play a little bit of guitar. But like really beginning.
We already had a topic on musical instruments, so I merged the two.
Carry on!
I play piano at a beginner's level--I've been learning it in college, and while I can figure out essentially whatever repertoire is assigned to me, I'm terrible at sight reading.
I played flute at the advanced side of a beginner's level after using it in band from 6th-12th grade, but aside from a 4-week revisit in a woodwind class, I haven't used it since.
One thing that I would love to learn how to play is the erhu... I'm finding it difficult to locate teachers here in Michigan, though.
And... does recorder count? I was playing around with it a while back and it finally hit me that the recorder was the instrument the Redwall series uses during its episode titles. And I find it fun to imitate the tin whistle solo in the Return of the King soundtrack for when Sam is just about to carry Frodo up the mountain.
I would definitely be a beginner at recorder, too. But it's fun every once and a while.
I'm pretty useless musically. :D I did have a few piano lessons when I was younger but it wasn't for me at the time. I'd like to get better at an instrument sometime - keeps being put off, though! We have a piano, keyboards and guitars in the house, so won't have to spend money to start learning something. :)

Umm... Well, I started playing piano maybe... five years ago? 'Bout the same with clarinet, too, and I started bass almost three years ago (well, this is my third year playing it, I mean.). But it really just depends on the teacher. I've had some pretty darn good teachers (three different piano teachers, all of them great, and one band teacher who's a clarinetist.).
I took a few piano lessons and learned one song that only has 3 notes
Oh! I love playing music!
I played the recorder for a year in 4th grade, because it was a requirement.
Then I played the viola for about 3 years, starting from 6th grade. But my viola was borrowed from the college my dad works at, so when they took the viola back, I couldn't play anymore. :(
Then just this year, I played piano for a few months, but the teacher went on a trip and never contacted us to begin lessons again, so that quit.
Now I'm starting the violin and I'm really excited for it! :D I'm also saving my money up to buy my own viola so I can do that again as well.
I still play the violin but now I can also play the guitar, piano, banjo, cello, mandolin, and the flute :)

Yes.
it's my job to play the saxophone, and may i say what stingy pay you get for it too.
my saxophone is a conn 6m "naked lady" made in 1941. it was called the naked lady because it has an engraving of a naked lady on the bell. i've been meaning to take a picture of it and share it with the world. unfortunately the best thing i can share is a picture of me playing a gig earlier this summer;

I sing. A lot. I think I'm decent at it, but I'm not trained in any sense of the word.
I play piano, flute, piccolo, and recorder (and not just fourth-grade stuff - I mean I was in a recorder ensemble in high school). I don't own my own piccolo, so the only times I've played that after graduating high school have been for the town's labor day parade, when I play with students and alumni of the high school and borrow the school one. I play flute sometimes at church (for example, Ash Wednesday and Christmas), and piano I just do at home for fun. I'm currently half re-learning a song I'd known years ago and haven't played in a while: "100 Years" by Five for Fighting.

I played flute from 6th-12th grade in band, but I haven't used it very much since then.
Also, we're made to learn piano in most college music programs, and I've actually found that I like it a lot, but I'm still at a pretty basic level.
I play piano, sing, and I'm trying to teach myself guitar.
I play clarinet in my Advanced Band, as well as electric bass guitar in Intermediate Band (I know, the music program I'm in has such original names. :P) and somewhere from intermediate to advanced with the piano. Oh, and I'm a second soprano in my choir.
I play the violin and a tiny bit of guitar. :)
Goodness.....Well I major in the violin followed by Piano and Guitar. Then I know the Cello, Banjo, Ukelele, Recorder, Mandolin, and maybe a little bit of Oboe......
Woah, cool. ;) I like the violin (but I still don't understand how you people can play those tiny things...) :D I play Double Bass in my orchestra. I'm Third Chair (out of three people).

Aha! I knew it! (As soon as I saw the 'flöte' part of the word, I went, "Hmm, that looks kinda like flute... But why wouldn't he just call it flute?" Still a lot of fun and excitement and as Norham said, in chair testing you've got nothing to worry about ;D At least (I think), I'm section leader in my band, though I'm also tied for the oldest and it's out of 5 people so it's not an amazing accomplishment. Still glad to be there though!!
@Scar: Like what? ;D
Like a windstorm (strange), a frog, imitating voices like Bill Cosby, airplane. . . Just a bit odd, really. I can make really strange voices as well.
Sonny, Bill Cosby is a whole different story.
I play a electric guitar and acoustic guitar.
Okay, so this DOES have something to do with music, as it happened in band class yesterday, so I have a fun story:
Advanced Band is the second to last band of the day at my music program, and I sat down with my clarinet in the front row, as usual, waiting for my teacher to come in. When she did, she noted how there were very few band members that day. I hadn't noticed that until she pointed it out, but after a quick headcount, there was just over half of the band there. The rest were gone.
My teacher pulled out a "new" piece (one that we played last year and are getting this year so we can have the less experienced bands listen to us in awe at mass band), called Fiera Winds, and we played through that (surprisingly, most of us remembered our parts, even though it's been a year.) twice. After that, my teacher glanced through her scores and went, "Y'know, since every song we have is gonna sound really bad with half a band, why don't we play a game?"
So, yes, almost all of the Advanced Band time was spent playing The Name Game: Empires. (I was Carly Rae Jepsen, and my sister, who was Nicholas Cage, guessed me quickly. Batman won. :P)
LOL! That is awesome! Wish my conductor would do that!
Our conductor is awesome. She is an absolute ball of energy, and doesn't usually say "no".
She never gets mad at us, (Considering we don't do stupid things [ Yeah we do ]) and always makes us laugh whenever we get something wrong, even if you're the one getting it wrong.
A song we are working on, called "Perseus", we hit a wrong chord, and the entire orchestra took about 3 minutes to stop laughing.

I can imitate many of his voices and sounds, like 'fat Albert's car', for instance.

It definitely can! A few months back my symphony played Scheherazade and they had an AWESOME Piccolo solo in it!
I play recorder. It really annoys me that nobody at my church except my best friend and the guy who runs the mission trips thinks of it as an instrument...
Makes it very difficult to get anyone to let me play it.
We went to the S.C.M.E.A tournament over the weekend. Our orchestra got a "Superior" award. :D
It was awesome.

Okay, so on Wednesday, we're playing in Bible Conference.
For those of you who don't know what that is, it's when Bob Jones has preachers all over come and well. . . Preach.
But on Wednesday, guess who is playing with the orchestra in front of 1,000's of people?
Yeah. Fun.

Wait... Bob Jones passed away recently... Unless it's a different Bob Jones.
Well, he had kids, and they run the school, along with their kids.
Bob Jones (The School) was founded 87 years ago by Bob Jones.
So yes, the first Bob Jones, the founder, died. . . Well, it wasn't recent I think. It was several years ago.

Actually, playing piccolo is a pain. It is almost impossible to play in tune. I far prefer my flute, but when it comes to tuning, the violin is defenitely the best.

They cost less than flutes I think. I saw some online for $200. Though how good they are I don't know.

Well, y'all were talking about the cost of your instruments a little while back, and I thought I'd chime in on that. My clarinet (a beginner's clarinet (ugh, I really wanna buy a new one, but they're so expensive!)) cost zero dollars to GET, but to fix it, it cost at least a hundred. (My brother got it from a friend of his, and the instrument was completely broken. Pads needed to be fixed, cord reapplied, keys fixed... a lot of work.) But, hey, my brother did all the work (he was going through the phase of, "Hey, I wanna be an instrument repair man as my job!"), and he did a pretty good job for a beginner. But, recently, things have been kinda dying, so I swapped out some of the parts of my brother's OTHER clarinet with mine, and now I call it a Frankenclarinet. :P

;D. I'm looking for a new violin now and they're expensive also.
I'm not sure buying a Double Bass right now is even physically possible for me. They're quite expensive.
Just fixing the Bow (The thingy that you rub on the string to make noise) would cost 50 to 100 dollars.
Yikes.
My flute was about $300... which is quite expensive considering that it's just a piece of bamboo with holes in it! It's fancy bamboo, though.

I sing sometimes. Not particularly well, but usually not badly. Doesn't help that my voice doesn't like cooperating. The only things that I know for sure fit within my current range are Things Could be Worse and Ancient World, both by Abney Park. I don't listen to a ton of music, so I wouldn't really know what other songs would work :P

I'm curious who voted for which instruments.
Flute, piano, and violin player.
Flute.
Viola.
Percussion for 9-10 years: drums, mallets, and accessories.
Piano for 15 years, but I don't take lessons.
Mallets?
Instruments with keys played with mallets, not counting kettle drums. Xylophone, Vibraphone, Glockenspiel, and my favourite, Marimba.
My voice. ;D
I'm actually a horrible singer.
Voice should be an option :D Anyway, I doubt you're bad, Sagey!! You're probably better than you think.
So, how are your musical lives?
Not too busy, yet. Although I may be playing the Titanic song in assembly. I get $10 if I do ;D
Oops, I replied to what I thought was a recent post. Sorry if I confused anyone for the brief time it was up. xP
I should probably start playing more piano. I can't really play flute anymore for now because it's too loud for my apartment and I don't want to bother the neighbors. I did, however, bring my keyboard with me, so I can still play piano.
I was last working on this before I moved out of my parents' house - I can get the hands individually, but together is hard. I don't think I've really played it since, so I'm probably a bit rusty.
I am doing my Grade 6 Piano and my Grade 4 Clarinet!!!
I play just a little acoustic guitar. I saved a lot for my first proper instrument (I used to borrow one and that was really annoying) but this is proving to be a lot harder than I thought it would be (plus, I have been told that being left handed is a disadvantage... although I don't know if this is true or not).
I'm a violinist, and I'm currently doing grade 5. Here in Australia, we have 8 grades (for violin at least). I play in a youth string ensemble, and do various group stuff at school. I'm going to be playing with an ensemble for a school play, which I'm pretty happy about. ;D
Hey, you live in Australia too? Cool :D
Do you guys play in an ensemble?
Right now, I'm in my school ensemble... the music program in my district is pretty small, so our band is actually combined with the junior high. Even though we play easy music, I enjoy playing with this group a lot! It is a small environment, but I'm glad we have something. My band director does very well with what she has, which honestly isn't as much as in other schools. Still, she does her best to give everyone the opportunities he or she deserves. I'm really glad we have her and this band :)
I'm competing too. It's this competition in which one prepares a solo for a judge. What's up with your musical lives? ;D
I am. My favorite piece that we're playing is a collection of songs from Wicked.]!!!!! I'm so excited!
Sounds neat! So you sing and you play an instrument?
YEAH! My band went to an MPMEA band festival and got a I! (We were only 1 point away from a I+ :'() Anyways, we were the best Symphonic Band in my band teacher's probably 30 years of teaching! I am so excited!
Well, I finished two years doing the trumpet, and I am now moving to the violin. I only know the very basics, but I'm learning. I really hope I can end up playing Concerning Hobbits ;D.
I just had a concert last week and it went great! :)
Awesome! What did you play?
Well, we played easy things :P ;D But it was really fun.
The band I am in is combined with the junior high because my school is small and more focused on academics. But I like playing with the group nevertheless.
That's kinda similar to my school. We have a junior and senior band but they're both really mixed.
What's up, fellow musicians? :)
I'm really happy about how my music competition went last week and am picking out a flute solo for next year. I want to do something very difficult and special since it's my last year I can compete in this...

Okay, so I finally found out what Mask 2.0 meant by "grades" (thank ye, Internet). I don't know about the school ensemble; the music there is really easy. But I think I play Grade 7-8 solos. I've been a flutist for six years now...
I just got a guitar on Friday. I've learned how to read a chord chart, and I've learned some basic chords - my fingers are sooo sore though.
Here's the song I played at contest:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHda-GAvBD8
What need have I for marching band? I have not the enjoyment nor the time nor the money. If it is not possible to participate in the band program save for commitment in the marching band- so be it. Thus it is that, for a short season, I lay my flute to rest, and once more a violinist become.
I would die inside if I couldn't play my flute in school.
Anyway, what's up, everyone? Not much for me...I need to practice more :P It's summer, so I don't have much except some music I'm learning for fun and a solo I won't be performing until May.
I was supposed to practice the clarinet but I procrastinated and put it off until the last week of the summer. :P

Well, I recently rejoined my band. The conductor was incredibly mean and picked on me constantly. :( Thankfully the old conductor's back and it should be fine now.
I hope so, Masky the 2nd!

!!! CLARINET! How long have you been keeping this secret from me, fellow clarinetist?
I feel I've already said this on this thread, but it hasn't been for awhile, so I'll say it again: I've played clarinet for about seven years, electric bass guitar for four years (although only three years in band; I dropped the bass (yes, I did just say that) because it was too stressful having to practice three instruments and my choir music every week), and piano for seven or eight years (can't remember when I started :P). I've been singing in choir for about ten or eleven years, though. (I can't remember exactly when kids are allowed to join the choir at my music program, but I wanna say it's either at five or six.)
One of my sisters plays clarinet! She was in marching bad, too.

I was supposed to practice the clarinet but I procrastinated and put it off until the last week of the summer. :P
My sis plays too.
I only know a few stanzas of a random song on the piano, but I always though it would be cool to play honky tonk piano (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6GEcdh5whk), Spanish guitar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJGCrAndFqI), violin, drums, bagpipes, and a few others
I play no instruments, though I'd like to
I do mess around with a cathedral organ...
Very interesting, considering you're... You.

I've tried piano, violin, and guitar. :P None of them have lasted. . . I dunno, I might - MIGHT - try violin again. 'Twas kinda fun. . . . .
This still stands. Although we've added flute to the list of abandoned instruments.

I choose to take this as a compliment.
It wasn't, but it wasn't a insult. Just considering your personality, or at least what I've seen of it, I just wouldn't have thought that. I'm sorry if any offence was taken.
I play violin in a flippin' ensemble... Have been for around four an' a half bloomin' years
Finally! I'm a gonna learn 'ow teh play the guitar! Yay!
I already do. It is super fun
Glad to hear it.
I've been playing the violin for about six and a half years. I have fun fiddling with the piano too but I don't really play it properly.
VIIOOOOLIIN!
Yes, violin.
Seems to me this thread, called musicians, has a bone to pick with vocalists! Sure we can only kind of read music, and sure we have trouble counting past four, but we're musicians dang it!
You have a point. Vocalists aren't appreciated here.

Wait... Is that a 'we'?! CHASE 'IM OFF!!!
No, no, I'm... I'm a NICE singer. I do the good music!
Alright, alright. As long as you have a violinist accompany you whenever you sing.
Hahaha, hey, if you're offering then I'll take you up on it. You'll have to play REALLY loud though for me to hear you from, er, here.
Meh. Violins are great but they can't do everything. I sing too and it's seldom accompanied by a violin so you should be fine.
What sort of songs do you like singing?
Hahaha, well, I'm classically trained, so I tend towards music that let's me put that training to use (with a lot of modern stuff, if you belt out like an opera singer it'll sound weird, dontcha know). I still do some solo work, but nowadays I mainly do choir stuff and am a paid singer at the church I attend.
Cool! I like singing opera too. (though I'm not particularly good at it) What's your favourite song?
That's a toughie, there's a bunch of them that I like. O Sole Mio is always a favorite, Amor Ti Vieta is short and sweet, the Bach Gounod version of Ave Maria is really nice too, as is Go Lovely Rose, and Total Eclipse is pretty cool.
We have THE WORLD'S VERY BEST Opera for kids... in English! CD. I can sing some of them but I probably know Figaro and Non piu andrai best, though my favourite is probably Ride of the Valkyries.
Hahaha, yeah, those are pretty fun pieces. Good choices!
I hate opera...
Ok?
That is exactly how I feel about rock music.

My heart hurts a little bit. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
I've been thinking of picking up the violin again, but I haven't decided. I don't really know where I would get lessons.
I've done a teeny bit of piano, but that's more of because it's one of the few instruments in our house.
I also like to sing horribly
I think the best part of playing a musical instrument is when you get to the stage you can hear a song and just figure out how to play it. Pianos can be very useful for this. (and they're generally fun to play with)
I play violin. I can play a bit of guitar, ukulele and piano, but I don't really count that. I'm also part of a handbells group. I sing in the school choir (and I'm not very good).
The other day I was wondering if any of the songs or poems in any of the Redwall books had been or could be made into actual pieces.
They probably have, although I wouldn't know where to find them. If they haven't been done, they could be.
For the pieces in books that have had audiobooks made, yes. The songs and such are sung, though not all of them have accompaniment. Some do though.

Yay! Another violinist!
Yes, welcome to the club. Violins are great.
Violins SUCK and are USELESS, and let me tell you why:
1. They don't have a C STRING. This is a glaring flaw and automatically disqualifies the violin from being good, even without the following.
2. They are EASY. What's a good instrument if anyone can play it? Instrument like the viola, cello, and double bass are HARD, and thus anyone who plays them is BETTER (as is the instrument).
3. They can't go LOW. See point #1. Cellos and violas can go low. Basses, though they can go the lowest, also lack a C string, but their low pitch gets them into the "not bad" category (still, contrabass is on THIN ice).
4. EVERYONE plays them. No, seriously. Brett and Eddy, Paganini, Perlman, Bell, ad nauseam... it's just too mainstream of an instrument. Real musicians choose less played instruments, like the hurdy-gurdy.

I
somewhat agree with points one and three. Low notes are better. (Though I don't see what's so great about the C string in particular)
However, points two and four I don't agree with.
Anyone can make a sound on a violin, same as with a cello, viola or bass. It takes skill to make music on a violin. (or any other instrument) Besides, simplicity is a good thing and, used right, beautiful.
As for point four, it's not a bad thing that violins are popular. That just proves their awesomeness.
Any instrument can be beautiful or horrible, depending on how it's played. Don't use the instrument as a judge of the musician. Both need to be considered but one doesn't necessarily match the quality of the other.

I wouldn't say they suck or are useless, just overrated.
*Said by a non-musician who is facepalming and bowing out of the thread*
I think most instruments are overrated in someone's eyes.
I guess I should add that that post was made as a joke. I myself am a violist and often find myself the butt of a great deal of jokes and jesting dislike, so I decided to offer my own in return. Violin is a beautiful instrument, just like many others, and some of the best compositions in the world are for it (and for good reason).
Well that's good, because I was 'boutta go off like nitroglycerin. ;) Violins always seemed like the most emotional instrument to me, and are so smooth whilst doing so. There's not really a break between notes, something even the ever flexible guitar cannot claim as the strumming hand rises and falls. Difficulty is largely subjective in the music world too, even if there are things that are generally easier or harder to learn. That having been said, that which is often considered easy (such as the piano and guitar) have a completely different sound to them when handled by a master. It's honestly really cool how the simplest things can be the greatest display of skill (For reference, Twinkle Twinkle little star [variations] on the piano:
That. is. amazing. Pianos can sound so beautiful.

I don't see how having a C string makes a difference, or how the pitch does.
What makes a violin any easier than a viola? Apart from having a more well known clef, which therefore makes reading the music easier, I don't see any difference in how you actually play them. Plus, you wouldn't call violin easy if you had some really awkward 3rd position bits, with a difficult rhythm as well.
The fact that everybody plays them just shows that it's an awesome instrument. Besides, musicians (and bookworms) are dying out. At my school, which has over a thousand pupils, there are hardly any people who play instruments or take part in the music clubs. Which means that instruments that you learn at school and not as part of paid music lessons, such as piano/keyboard, are becoming a lot more popular, and there aren't as many people learning violin.
Drums, however, I really do not like. They are loud and annoying, and contribute nothing. Drums cannot play tunes, which makes them pretty useless.
That last bit is (partly) a joke, I know that drums aren't useless, as my friend who's a drummer tells me so a lot, but drummers are the enemies of violinists, and I like to annoy that friend by telling him how drums are useless and that violins are better.
Hickory mentioned that was a joke....
Since there are actual violists here they should probably answer, but I would suppose the C string allows it to play a greater range of music.
Violas' deeper pitch tends to confine them to fleshing out an orchestra, in between the cello and the violin.
(that's all I dare say.)

That's just how it is for groups of similar instruments with varying ranges. It's similar for choirs as well; usually the sopranos have the melody, the bases form the root of chords, and tenors and altos add color. Me being a tenor, though, I just pretend that I'm always singing the melody ;D
Of course that can very greatly depending on the music, and the melody can be passed around between parts and certain moments can have different sections rise above others, even if only for a second. The above is just a generalized statement.
'ey. I only took piano okay? Don't expect me to know everything. ;)

In general, I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. The one exception is with Scottish drumming. (although that's kind of a given, seen as anything Scottish is awesome)
... Yeah, okay. Drums can sound pretty cool.
At school, in the music room at lunch (anybody who does music clubs or takes music is allowed to go there at lunch, and there's choir on Tuesday and Friday lunch anyway), drums are banned. This is because last year, the year elevens found the friend I mentioned in my other post very annoying, and the music teacher also did. The three rules of the music room at lunch (and during handbells) are:
1. No drums.
2. No Fortnite dances.
3. No Eurovision.
Rules 2 and 3 don't really apply now, since the person they were intended to stop has left now, but they are still (unofficial) rules. Rule one is still official, though.
Are tambourines allowed?
Until they get annoying.
So that's a yes then.
Tambourines are a lot of fun. One time my friend and I did a tambourine duet. We got third place. (We were also the only ones doing it)
I have to say, that's pretty impressive
I know, right? In all seriousness, it was heaps of fun. The reason we only got third place is because we started laughing half way through and couldn't stop.
Yeah, during performance it's important to maintain your composure, no matter how emotional you get.
Yeah, I know. I was very young at the time. (about eleven so not that young but still...)
Well, I was just joking really. I think it's kind of appropriate to start cracking up during a tambourine recital ;D
Yeah, it was very appropriate.
