I love weapons(not that I would want to use one ;))
So here's a little knowledge:
A star mace is a mace without the chain. It has only the handle
A chain mace(also called a flail) his a wooden(or metal) handle, with a chain and a spiked ball at the end.
I've used a belt as a sling. I almost hit a car, but thankfully didn't. I can also shoot a bow fairly accurately. I also have two wooden swords, a scabbard for one, and a shield.
Cool!
I think Sgian dhus are pretty neat.
I made my own sling years ago - took a strip of old jeans and used that as the pouch, and did this four-strand braid of yarn for the strings. Worked pretty good, but all in all I think I made the strings too short; they were only like 3 or 4 feet long. I could aim decently enough after some practice though. (I had plenty of room to do it; I used it out in the woods. No worries about hitting cars like Wonwill! xD)
Cool!
I might try making my own sling one day.

Search on google.
I made a sling from leather and two shoe laces. I also have two wooden bows that I got at a middivel festival in Germany.
I have a realcompound bow but the drawlebgth is too short
I might get a bow this summer. Me and my Grandpa will go try it, and if we like it, we'll buy one for each.

I believe a star mace is a mace with a head that looks like a star or like something like that and a just a mace is a handle with a ball with spikes on it normally but I may be wrong
true.
With just a stick it's called not a star, but a morning star.
Also true. :D
The one with the cain is called a morning star, the one with only the handle is called a mace.
Morningstars are spiked, maces are not.
oh learning new things everyday
I bought 4 dowels (wooden rods) at Home Depot and sharpened the tip and made lances.
haha nerd :P I'm gonna make a sling tonight hopefully. Do you just use regular stones?
Yes, but start with rubber balls or something first until you get decent aim. Don't put out a window.

who likes steampunk weapons? i think they are awesome!
I have a steampunk sword design. I want to get it made.
I own a Plexiglass bow and aluminum arrows. The bow isn't anything cool like a compound, just a recurve bow. Though, I need new arrows, a new arm guard and a new archery glove. My old ones are so tiny, because I stopped taking archery a long time ago. Now I get bruises and blisters whenever I try to fire an arrow 'cause the dumb arm guard isn't big enough. The string keeps hitting my arm!
I never use an arm guard ;D
You probably wouldn't need to either if you just held your bow slightly farther away from the arm that is holding the bow
Yes, that would be a good idea, and I tried it, but it felt rather strange. And I still hit my arm. ::)

I learned a trick when i took archery. Turn your arm so the bow is parallel to the ground and then straighten it by twisting your wrist

I hope I can make a wooden dirk tomorrow my dad said he would help now he's saying we don't have anything to cut the curves even though I suggested using a jigsaw like they did on YouTube but he didn't listen
Cool! I think this summer I'll make a bunch of weapons.
Soon, I'll be making some wooden guns for my siblings.(maybe one for me too ;D)
ha will they work?
No, wooden guns would explode when you fire a shot. Basically, a gun ignites gunpowder, and the gunpowder explodes. The kinetic energy from the explosion shoots out the barrel, bringing the amuition with it. Gunpowder explodes fairly weak, for an explosion, so an iron or steel barrel is able to direct the explosion. And there's so many parts to a gun, an untrained person wouldn't be able to make one.
oh I was joking anyways
Lol! It's just wooden guns! :D Without anything to fire or stuff.
I figured, but I wanted to go geek.

As I understand it, it's not kinetic energy, but expanding gases that take the path of least resistance, that is, the bullet or musket ball or shot or whatever you're firing. my weapon collection consists of a small one-edged knife, a long "arkansas toothpick" throwing knife (made by me), a much smaller double pointed throwing knife (also made by me), a non-sharp foot and a half long bladed shortsword, a longer left-hand parrying dagger with a basket hilt lined with red crushed velvet, a buckler-like shield, a compound bow with 4 arrows, a black leather chestplate (made by me), a short zulu-esque leaf bladed double headed spear (made by me), a wooden scimitar, a leather sling (made by me), a metal hook on a metal shaft (made by me), an all-metal spear (made by me), a whole bunch of assorted foam weapons (mostly made by me), a long wooden katana (made by me and my mom), a small hatchet (made by me), and finally a small carbon fiber handled knife with a sharp edge and a serrated edge (made by me). the funny thing is: I'm a very nonviolent person!!
are all the ones that you didn't specify what material they are metal?
And I'm feeling awesome with my sword and my sheath my dad and I made today.
How did you make weapons with metal?
I didn't its wood my brother made one too I just finished making his sheath outta duct tape. Now I'm wearing his too. They're not swords the ones we made are dirks
Oh ok.....I was kinda asking Rusvul there...
oh hehehe well um yeah
About the mace thing: A metal ball attached to a chain attached to a handle is a chain mace. Or mace-and-chain. A metal ball attached to a wooden handle is a mace. A spiked metal ball is a morning star. It can be used on either a mace-and-chain or a normal mace. If the metal ball has ridges instead of spikes it makes a flanged mace. A mace-and-chain can have more than one chain and head.
Actually, it's not chain and mace, it's flail.
Well different people call it different things

very nice swordplay in it. Hmph. Ever since I was little, I've thought D'Artagnon was quite attractive. Only recently have I realized how arrogant he is! :D
My fencing instructor said that the movie Scaramouche was one of the best swordplay movies ever made.
And I like European medieval weaponry.
REVIVE.
It's worth noting that there is no such thing as a "short sword". What I mean by this is that the title "short sword" for said swords is not real; it is a made up name. Contrary to the argument "Well, there are long swords and big swords; why can't there be short swords?", the term can only be describing the sword rather than giving it a name. There are too many different kinds of swords of the same short length to put them all into a single category. (Also, that might make a sword of 24 inches be a one-handed sword, but one of only 23 inches a short sword. Yeah, not much sense in that)
There are a few interesting weapons out there that I thought were just made up, like the "morning star", or the "morgenstern" in German. Imagine a mace with a bigger head spiked going everywhere. There is also the katar, though I haven't gone into much research of this weapon.
Katars are pretty cool, have you ever seen a Quoit-Headed Sword?
No, actually. I looked up 'quoit' and it came up with a throwing ring. :P
I really like falcatas and kopis swords. Also (here I blatantly say that katanas are NOT the best weapons in the world), there is a knife, called a kukri (or khukuri), that can literally cut off a head or arm with one swing. A knife! The sword version of the kukri is no less deadly.
Alright, now put the ring on the end of a swords blade. Terrifying and deadly.
What about Patas or Mambele? They're pretty cool, aren't they.
The Kukri sounds terrifying.
I like kampilans, katanas, shamshirs and kris

It is one of the most celebrated fighting knives in the world. There's a story from the Falklands War that Argentine troops surrendered after British planes dropped pamphlets threatening that kukri-wielding Gurkhas soldiers were on their way to the islands.
And I have the materials available to be able to make this deadly knife.
Kukris are great. Underpowered in D&D, they should definitely have a critical threat chance higher than 10% and deal more than a d4 of damage. I mean, really...
:P
No kidding. They have a ritual that they cut off the head of a cow; if it's done in one swing, the year will be fruitful. ONE SWING TO SEVER THE HEAD OF A COW FROM THE REST OF IT'S BOVINE BODY!
Ah kukris, did yo know it's not actually Indian like most think it is? It's actually Nepalese. It is used very commonly in India though. Also it's pronounced Kook-ree if anyone was wondering, the S is silent.
I'm not sure about the cow ritual. Considering a large amount of Nepal and almost all of India is Hindu, most of them wouldn't touch a cow.
Yes, the warrior peoples of Nepal, called the Gurkhas; they've been serving in the British army since before the first World War.
I won't go too into it, but India is the country with the most diversities of religions in the world for its size, and there are so many different kinds of 'Hindu' that I don't really find it too surprising for them to kill a cow as such.
I just love swords ;D >:D
UPDATE IN MINE: Sgian Dubhs and Bows. Oh and axes. I actually bought a sgian bubh and bow ;D
What kind of bow, exactly? There's long bows, crossbows, recurve, compound (I know it's modern), and composite.
Oops, recurve. It's a great looking bow, polished and made of fine wood. Like to keep it classy ya know.
All I have (as in bows) is a crossbow (not an old classic one but a newer model. Painted camo) which I use to go pig hunting.
I have a simple fiberglass recurve bow from when I took archery when I was 9, so it's too small for me now, but I'd love to get a takedown recurve bow. (At least, I believe that's what it's called. I was never told what it was called, but I saw some of the older kids in the class using them, and my brother even got to shoot one once. He said there was a lot of power in it, much more than my bow.)

Yeah, the handle seems to be more fitted for a hand, and the takedowns I saw others using had very nice slots to set the arrow, instead of resting them on your hand, which is quite painful. ;)

I've found katars interesting, and am curious as to how they're used in fighting.
I don't have any real weapons besides a couple of pocket knives unfortunately, but I do have a training sword- modern, made of heavy black plastic, it is a cross-tree hilted claymore.
I have one of those! I also have two daggers made out of the same material!

Grandfather's are awesome for getting info. Apparently usually they're used to slice and stab. Small katars are often used for assassination. But uses can vary from place to place.

Buying and sharpening a bought piece of metal, not forging this time. Forged out the hand guard and set a stone in a little bit of copper, though.
Cool. Just finished a fillet knife made from a sawz-all blade; it turned out very nice. Burned the tang all the way through the wood. Also, I forged a little copper cap for handle/blade junction. :)
Yeah similar.
. . . Just got back from a blacksmithing conference, toting a dagger made of 1084 carbon steel. (This steel is coveted by Damascus makers; because of the magnesium content in it, it makes black lines in Damascus. It also isn't made any more.) Also, I purchased a $120 belt grinder/disc grinder for $40 ;D
:o
Mm, weapons are good.
Oh yes. I love slings too, but I've not had much practice. I think spears would best suit me.
Spears are really the easiest weapon to use, i.e., they require the least amount of skill.
Slings are fun.
It's either spears or the kind of sticks they use in karate, yea, I like those.

There is no such thing.
A polearm isn't a weapon, it's a category that some weapons fall under including a spear, pike and halberd
I own a bokken. We were going to be some nanchaku (nunchucks to us westerners) but we decided against it. I want to learn how to fight with tambo though, they're pretty cool. Did you know there's such thing as a thirty-two bladed sword? They're from Sri Lanka and they're called Urumi, commonly known as a whip-sword
And is probably not terribly useful.

I beg your pardon?
But you just said that some weapons. . .
Okay, well I'm pretty sure the definition of a weapon is any object that is used for harming another living being. :P
Not necessarily the case, you also get ceremonial weapons and ornamental weapons which aren't supposed to be used for harming anyone
Interesting interpretation of the word 'weapon' that I rather like:
A weapon is anything that is used to hurt anyone. A book is a weapon if you hit someone over the head with it, a longsword is not if you use it to chop vegetables.
Not a particularly accurate definition, but intriguing to think about.

I think it is pretty accurate actually. Seriously, a piece of toast is a weapon if you choke someone on in it.
Or Lysol is a weapon if your spray it over someone's face while they're sleeping.....make's em' choke.
. . . And if you're Jason Bourne, than a pen is a weapon, a book is a weapon, a rag is a weapon, so is a magazine, and a toaster. . .
And then there's an eraser..... If you're Jackie Chan.
Chuck Norris needs no weapons... He IS one! ;D
Really anything could be used as a weapon, generally something like a grass stalk isn't going to do much. but it can still be counted as a weapon.
Indeed.
On another note, I'm close to finishing the kukri.

Some info on the Urumi, it was a sword commonly used in Kerala in India and they are one of the more common weapons in Kalaripayattu, a Keralite martial art involving weapons and press points on the body, some of which are fatal and others not,
only the most skilled fighters could ever hope to learn to use the press points. I have a comic which has some Urumi fighting in it, but I don't have it right now. :P
The Urumi whip-sword sounds AWESOME!
They are freaking terrifying. I've seen an expert use one at a performance. He cut a potato into 20 pieces with one chop!(I counted afterwards)!
Yikes. If you ask me, though, that's just too much.
Too much? Did I just here you say too much? You can never have enough. I'd have a sword with so many separate blades, every time you shook it, it would start shaking, creating it's own energy and become a lightsaber

Indian steel is awesome. ;D
The steel has nothing to do with it; it's the shape, weight, thickness, bevel angle, etc.
The "original" form of Damascus steel was made in India, and is called "wootz" steel. It naturally forms lines and striations in itself due to the way the steel is made from the ore. Western peoples thought it came from the city of Damascus, and there we have the name.
The Vikings probably made pattern-welded (same thing as Damascus) steel to stretch the amount of high-quality steel by joining it with iron.

.270... Winchester? Right? Rifle? I'm actually kinda surprised you don't have a .22.
My brother has one.
Strangely, I have about 200 .22 rounds in my closet, but no rifle to fire them with. It's never been interesting enough for me to shoot to buy a rifle of that caliber. I prefer my hunting rifle and my old M1 .30 Carbine my Grandpa gave me from the Korean War. That one is fun.
The next firearm I'll get is going to be a pistol, preferably a double action revolver.
Oooo, if you're gonna get a revolver, you should get a Chiappa Rhino. Those things are cool. (Unless you're looking for a more normal looking revolver, of course.) They fire from the bottom cylinder rather than the top.
@Kade Rivok I'm looking for a more traditional looking revolver. That does look cool, though.
*Grumbles about how he completely ignores my "recommendation", even though he likely can't afford it.*
So, are you looking for a full-size, or concealable revolver?
I GOT $12K IN THE BANK BOI MONEY AIN'T NO PROB
Kind of medium size. Something I could get my concealed carry for if I want to. I don't have any particular brands or models in mind, just what I know I want it to be like. I have seen a few that match my tastes at local gun shops.
Money ain't no prob until you start looking at Korths
You might want to look at the Ruger SP101. It's smaller (and lighter) than the gp100, comes in .357/.38, or .327 Federal if you're into that. I think it's only five rounds though.
.357 is about the size I want. My dad has an old .357 magnum, looks like it's straight out of an old Western movie.
I wish I could help you more than "Search for .357s in your area and find which one you like best!" *Said in presentation voice.*
For instance, I'd hate to carry my dad's gun, but it is very soft-shooting for a .357. This is why I recommend that, even if you buy a .357, to use .38s in it.
If you're looking for aomething to conceal, you might want to look for a DAO revolver, or one with a smaller hammer nub. They also make three-inch barreled .357s, but most loads lose a lot of energy in a three inch gun (if you're using the magnums.)
There's a lot out there, to say the least.
Some of the shops have shooting ranges attached, so my plan would be to test fire them before purchasing so I know what I'm getting.
Good idea. You'd probably want a lighter-weight gun for carry. Out of curiosity, what makes you desire a revolver over an automatic?
Um, I can't get an automatic for one.
I like the look of revolvers, and if I get a double action then I won't have to re-chicken it every time.
I know most gun terms are confusing, but when I say automatic, I mean in terms of loading. (You;d know it as a semi-automatic.) It automatically loads. I'm not saying you should get a machine-pistol.
Fair enough, and you shouldn't worry. Almost all carry-specific revolvers are Da/Sa
Skarzs gets an uzi.

So, what weaponry do you think you'd get, Scott?
Probably just a knife but I do have a Mosin Nagant but I need ammo.
That would be in. . . 7.62x54Russian, right? I hear that most Russians call it the Mosin rifle.
Yup. It's not brand new it doesn't have the varnish and the metal part on the stock looks a bit damaged.
Well, it's a relic. It won't be in the best condition. You might want to check online for the .32 acp adapter for the Mosin rifle. That should allow you to shoot on the cheap.
Okay. I doubt my dad would even allow me to have ammo. Cause we live in the city and I don't think my dad ever owned a gun before. I am not 100% sure but I think my dad got it from one of his friends for really cheap and he just came home and asked me if I wanted it.
True. As a suggestion, you could find a range and ask them to store some ammunition for you for when you want to shoot.
Like ranges would be open right now. One of our family friends from church might take me to go turkey hunting when times get better!
You'd be surprised who would be open.
How's the hunt going, Skarzs?
Not actively looking right now.
Fair enough.
Skarz with a TEC-9 would be a hilarious drawing.
Nope. It's got a pistol-gripIt's an AR-15It'sIllegal!
What are y'all's thoughts on knives?
They're knives, I guess.
(Own any? :P)
Three pocketknives, but only one that I actually care about.
I have. . . Many.
I have also broken many.
The next project I really want to do is a design of sword that I thought up, and want to make it a reality.
Just a question, SKar: How have you broken these knives? Were these forgings that didn't turn out the way they should've, or did you overstress a commercial knife?

Knives are cool. I have a few pocket knives and a Leatherman.
Not to completely ignore the topic change, but
@The Skarzs if you want a cheap gun that you don't have to worry about destroying when you finally want an automatic,
Get a Hi-point.
(Why is all that blank space necessary?) They kind of look cheap. (Though I don't really know what guns should look like)
I hve no idea why, but almost all gun owners hate Hi-points with a passion. It's basically a joke gun in many circles. However, they are indeed cheap, look it, have horrible ergonomics, are top-heavy, and tend to be incredibly reliable. I don't think anybody who can afford anything different takes Hi-points seriously.
I can kind of understand that.

I mean, seriously?
I got one hatchet at least three swiss knives. A spring loaded german pocket knife. A cheap usa one that I broke and had to take a part and rebuild I only keep it because it was a christmas present from a friend. I got a cool fifty dollar pocket knife that I got as a gift but the wooden handle got cracked. My Mosin Nagant and we have a gazillion aluminum baseball bats and finally a military grade butter knife.

To be fair, that's afermarket, I think. I don't believe Hi-point sells in anything other than black.
Ah, see. I have not the ability to tell whether or not a gun is aftermarket. They're not really my area of expertise.
To be fair, many things aren't mine.

The latter, for the most part. But I have done my fair share of the former.
A lot of knives I got when I was younger weren't very good quality, and either by pushing them past their limits or using them until they were worn out, I have gone through many knives.

I actually watched that while I wrote that reply.
Lol!
Heh. The obvious pleasure that guy (and probably you too) get out of watching those things being destroyed is hilarious.
Demolition Ranch is pretty fun.
Right now, all I carry is a jacknife and a 1911. My grandfather owns many antique guns, but I manage them, store them and use them.
Sounds like a good deal to me. ;D
It is. Only problem is that I'm a terrible shot. Can't hit a target outside of 20 feet.
Well then. . . practice. XD
I will.
One of my friend's friends (bear with me) has been able to hit shotgun shells at forty yards. With a pistol.
That's impressive. I want to get that good with a bow. I think it may take a while.
Well, that guy shoots a lot. I have trouble hitting things at twenty-five yards (approx. 23 meters), and I have a scope :D
Anyone here have a musket or flintlock?
No.
