They had been in the desert for several days, escorting an insane hare from Southsward to Redwall.

Lurqui woke with a dry taste in her mouth, the mouthful of water the night before hadn't been enough. She looked over at the hare, Gendlir Torsorem. He was lying awake, muttering to himself. He was tied, to make sure he didn't murder them in their sleep. She uncorked one of the remaining three canteens of water and raised it to her lips, she took a small mouthful, then a little more. It was more then her share, but no one else was awake yet. She would make up for it and take a little less at lunch.

Deathcoil Poisonteeth slithered out of his den under the desert sand. He looked up and saw a small group of creatures far off. He slithered into the sand and went towards the group.

Not too far away, probably a little over a mile or so, a Burrowing Owl was popping his head out of his home, which was a hole in the ground.  Peregrine, or Pip, as he called himself, was a rather careful owl.  He knew that most of the creatures around here would like to have him for lunch, so he rarely left his burrow during the day.  Today was not one of those days.
Pip slowly climbed out of his home, his head rotating to make sure there weren't any snakes around.  When he was sure that he was safe, he stretched his legs and started walking, looking for something to eat.  He knew that daytime wasn't a good time to hunt, but he was hungry.  He also needed water, which was something that had only just come to his mind.  Shrugging to himself, Pip continued walking.  He'd keep his eyes open for water.

Dusk the sand cat was curled up in a ball, hiding underneath a sand dune.  He was not a very long distance away from Pip, but he didn't know that.  He was asleep, but not for much longer.  Just before he started his nap, the young cat had stuck his muzzle out of the dune so he could breathe.  Now he felt something tickling it.
Opening up his eyes, which were also out of the dune, Dusk could see that a fly had landed on his nose.  With a slight twitch, he startled the fly enough to move.  Then the sand cat closed his eyes and continued napping.

Shona the ferret had been traveling in this desert for two days now. She knew how to look after herself in most situations, but deserts were not her strong point, and she was worried. The ferret trudged through the sand, keeping an eye out for other creatures.

Gendlir sand a little song to himself, it was rather disturbing,

"The bloody red sun,
'Tis becoming far too tame,
I take me knife,
And you'll never be live again.

Lurqui shot a look at Gendlir, and gave Cacti a little kick in the back to wake him up.

Raj the ferret had been wandering around the desert for a couple of weeks, trying to find another living creature. His water supply had just run out, and he was dehydrated. He saw some travelers in the distance, but he thought it might be a mirage. Taking his chances that they might be real, he started to dash towards them. He tripped and fell, but couldn't find the strength to get up. They appeared to be coming toward him. If they were were real, he might have a chance at survival. If they were just a mirage, he would die here in the desert, alone.

Pip continued walking, but turned as he saw movement on the horizon.  He peered into the distance, just able to make out a small group of beasts.  He gasped.  Other beasts in this terrible desert?
Pip spread his wings and lifted himself off the ground, flying closer to the creatures.  He wasn't sure if they were there, because that sort of thing had happened to him before.  He didn't know what to call it, but he was sure he had read about it in some book.
As Pip started to get closer, he realized that they weren't his imagination.  There were other beasts in the desert!  Oh, how he hoped they were friendly.
Pip landed not too far from them, just a few yards.  He knew that he must be a little difficult to see, because his feathers blended in with the sand.  Well, nearly, at least.
"Hello there, my name's Peregrine.  Who are you, and what are you doing in my territory?"  Pip decided to try and be gruff, hoping that they would think he was tough and not try and attack him.

Lurqui turned and narrowed her eyes at Pip, "Ah'm 'ere 'cause ah choose tae!" She snapped. Her gaze flickered to her spear, stuck point down in the sand not far away, and then back at Peregrine.

Deathcoil Poisonteeth was now close to the group of travelers. He shed his skin and put a sand coloured one. He then slithered towards the nearest creature, preparing to strike.

Peregrine Sandstorm, like most owls, had very good hearing.  His head snapped around, right where the snake would be.  He didn't know what was there for a moment, because owls don't have very good vision during the day, but he knew it was a snake.
"Snake!" he shouted, taking to the sky.  "Everybeast, snake!"

Dusk was woken up from his nap yet again.  He had just fallen back asleep when he heard some strange shouting in the distance.  He opened his eyes and crawled out of the dune, glaring at small specks on the horizon.  Why did they have to wake him up?
Pulling out his blowpipe, Dusk carefully and slowly walked closer to the little specks.

Deathcoil Poisonteeth jumped at a nearby fox, sinking his fangs in the foxes neck.

OOC: Any ideas as to where I should jump in?  :)

You could start in a den or something.

Detheurim the fox had been doing his nightly routines, polishing his sword, and hunting for game, when he found the ferret. It looked dehydrated and nearly dead. He took it in his secret cave and cared for it, hoping it would be alive in the morning.
OOC: I posted my character in the OOC topic, FYI.

Raj awoke slowly in the dim light of the fox's cave. He reached for his scimitar, thinking at first he had been captured. He found it had been confiscated. There was no one else around, so he knew he was safe at the moment. He was starving. He searched the cave for something to eat. He found water. He also found some pita bread and hummus, and ate all of it. Content and satisfied, he went back to the cot where he had been and slept soundly.
