I'm with MeadowRabbit on this.  I grew up in a heavily hunting area, and thought for a long time that venison was a normal meat that everyone has, just like beef and chicken.  Every hunter I know uses the meat - even for things like bears; I've had a bear burger at my friend's house before - and usually the pelt too, if they have a use for it.  It's not a waste to kill an animal if you're using it in this way, providing for your family.

And you've also got to worry about overpopulation sometimes; that's bad for the animal population and their food sources and often drives them closer to humans.  And then there's things such as the pack of coyotes that came into my neighbor's yard and attacked her little lap dog when she let it out in the yard to do its business (I don't know whether the dog lived or died).  Or sometimes animals like raccoons or bears find a food source near a human's house (like garbage) and can be a danger to humans.  That's what I consider a pest, and I don't find it wrong to kill an animal like that.

Really, I think everyone's point of view on this depends on where and how you were raised.  I really like animals, but I'm definitely not opposed to hunting so long as there's a good sustainable population.

You petition is a little vague. What kind of animals? Where? How many? Are they pests? If I get a little more info, I'll probably sign. :)

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,!,!!!!!!,,,!,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked at the petition afterwards, and was quite surprised that it has been signed by quite a few people. However, I agree that it is too vague, and you do need to improve the grammar for it to have hope of it being taken in any way seriously. :)

It doeznae matter vhich animalz are bein' killed. Every bein' 'az ze right tae life, an' nay zpeciez 'az ze right tae zay anozer zpeciez zhould nae exizt.

So you think that it would be best to let all animals live, even the ones that endanger humans? I mean, animals are important and should not be killed off, but if it is for food or our own protection, they are not as important as human beings.

While I can agree on points that we must love and respect all the creatures around us (animals, plants and so on), I can't agree with a vague blanket statement about not killing animals because the reality is far more complex.

The nature of life on Earth is that things have a limited time and then eventually die for whatever reason.

What is the context?
- a person killing an animal with love, with respect and relying on that animal for his/her survival?
- a person abusing their pet dog/cat for some disharmony in their life, leading to the death of the pet?
- a person needing to protect their flock by killing some vermin (serious)?

It's the thought that counts, and also if killing an animal serves a purpose.

I'm against fox hunting for instance, because it apart from being unfair for the fox more importantly it serves no purpose - what are you going to do, eat the fox? Killing for sport is a crime and should be banned worldwide.
Killing for food, to prevent disease, to help maintain balance in an ecosystem - all these things are noble purposes and as long as they are done with the right intention (most importantly with love) then they are beneficial.

A small amount of meat is good for the human diet (such as fish), so just as other animals must kill in order to eat, as humans we'd need to kill something for that purpose. It's the manner in which it is done,  the thought that goes with the act.
Sadly in the modern day of mass production and complex supply chains many of us never have contact with the animal we're eating, so the least we can do is give thanks for the life given. Hopefully in the future things might change with food production.
My ears, how are you, wot!

Zigh...Ziz iz exactly me problem viz 'umanz. Zey zink zat zey are better zan everyvone an' everyzin' elze, zat zey are ze "chozen race" or zummat. Viz regardz tae protection, often animalz vill attack zomevone becauze zey feel zat zey are a danger an' zreat tae zem. Vid ye zen, accordin' tae yer argumentz, be fine viz animalz killin' 'umanz if zey endanger ze animalz? Becauze if zat'z true, zen ah can zee a lot o' 'umanz dyin'. Vot if ze rolez vere reverzed? Vot if ye vere nae an 'uman an' vere a zpeciez zat 'umanz 'ad labelled az a pezt or a danger tae ze 'uman population? Vot if ye 'ad merely attacked an 'uman tae protect yer family, like a Mother protectin' 'er kittz? Vid ye be zae quick tae 'ave a zpeciez killed zen?

In zhort, dinnae be a Dalek. Every creature 'az ze right tae life, an' nay creature 'az ze right tae tell anozer zat zey cannot live. Killin' for food iz a neccezzary evil zat occurz av ze time in Nature. Killin' for food vhen vone 'az ample zupply an' iz only daein' for reazonz like tiz rare, like pufferfizh, iz an unnecezzary evil. Zae tae anzver yer queztion, aye, ah dae believe it bezt, az vell az necezzary, tae let Animalz live, even ze vonez zat endanger 'umanz like (ah'm azzumin') yerzelf.

As much as you may disagree, humans are different.  While some animals more than others have showed some intelligence, there are none that are sentient like humans - we cannot be measured in the same way that animals are; there are far too many differences.

To switch around your way of looking at things: if humans are so similar to animals, then what's wrong with humans hunting?  You say "What if you were an animal that attacked a human to protect your young"... why can't humans protect their young as well?  Animals protect their territory when others bother them... why not humans?  Animals hunt those lower than them on the food chain.... why not humans?

I agree with almost all of that, but you misused the word sentient, it comes from Buddhist origin, and means any creature with emotions, that can feel pain.

Blaggut

Ran out of space, had to double post, example of sentient beings:

A fox is sentient, it feels emotions  and pain. Humans is another example.

A tree is not sentient, it feels no emotions too it's young or fellow trees, nor can it feel pain when you, say, chop it. A cell is another example.

Viruses: they don't actaully live, they corrupt cells with their DNA, and the cells produce more viruses, this causes the cell to burst, and these new viruses go to kill more cells, or be hunted by white blood cells, AND SLAY YOU!!!!!!

Oops, you're right, I meant sapient rather than sentient there.  Sapient refers to intelligence, as in "sapient beings".

For vone, ah'm talkin' more aboot 'umanz 'untin' for zport, becauze ze animal looked at zem funny, or for food vhen zey are very far from ztarvin' (like viz eatin' pufferfizh) iz vron'. An' vid ye be zae quick tae encourage 'untin' if ye vere bein 'unted yerzelf, or per'apz yer family an' friendz bein' 'unted? 'ov aboot a baby ziblin'?

For tvo, aboot ze protectin', ah mean protectin' viz zeir natural defenzez (clavz, teez, beakz, pavz an' vot nae) iz okay, but nae uzin' ztuff like gunz, inzecticide, an' trapz. Animalz dinnae 'ave zat ztuff, an' vizoot it 'umanz vid become aboot az "fearzome az 'antz. Vizoot zeir gunz an' toolz, 'umanz vid be Tiger food.
