I like katana, for a similar reason to Star. Despite the long, drawn out swordfights in anime and manga, katana are designed for quick ends. It's lovely. And practical.
Was anyone else on the old DAB forum, circa 2009? I was recently reminded of it, lol.

Bitterly jittery, and not very glittery.

I have recently acquired this sabre; it's handmade of carbon steel with a bronze hilt guard. It is a replica of one used by the Confederates in the Civil War. The feel it has in the hand is wonderful, and it is truly something that would be deadly in battle.

By the way, there's a site where you can buy swords and other bladed items that is called BudK. Cool stuff, though I suggest looking at the descriptions and reviews carefully, as many of them are stainless steel; just be careful. ;)

Hey Skarzles, I have the same one! CSA Calvary Saber! I love it! One of the only swords I own but it is great. It is more of a decoration though.

If you wanna chat, PM me :) I'd love to talk with any of you!

DO you need a license? If you do, well, then, I'm a criminal. Unless it applies to blade lengths over two feet, or something, because I don't have anything particularly long.. Or, well, not yet anyway. I'm working on a rapier :P

First of all, it's not sharp. Second of all, you have to be eighteen to buy from the site anyways, so you would only need an ID. I however did not get it off the site; I won't go into the specifics but I paid for it legitimately.
When you're eighteen, you can buy pretty much anything but alcohol. If you want to conceal a pistol, THEN you need a concealed weapons permit, but you don't need a license to buy the gun, at least where I am.

If you really want to be safe rather than sorry, just read up on the laws and rules about such things. ;)

Okay I'm pretty sure the rules are different in Australia cos here you need a weapons permit, 18+ you need a licence to actually HANDLE it and some other stuff.

Well, I have a replica Glamdring (Gandalf's Sword). It is very balanced sharp. I also Have Gimili's Ax and Sting, which are both also very nice. If I were to get another, it would most likely be Aragorn's, just because it looks a lot slicker and comes with a small knife/dagger on the scabbard.  Also, my brother just recently bought the Master Sword from Legend of Zelda. Oh, the nerd I am...
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

You people are lucky, the only remotely sword-like implement I have is a bokken, which is basically a training katana made of wood. Though they were used as actual weapons to cause serious head injuries

I know I'm going to make a few enemies, but the katana is not on my list of good swords... But I won't go into that.

Really, the only Japanese weapon that I like would be from their polearms.

Most of the swords I like are from 1450 AD -1640 AD, highlighting the swept-hilt rapiers and calavlry broadswords (as shown here) from the 17th centry.

The katana has no guard to protect your fingers, and so an opponent will target them to disarm you. Major flaw.
