I find myself wondering what Shael is saying to Dave on the previous page, why does he have an evil grin? Why is Dave so wary of him?

Good question. I think it's something like this:

Shael: *broglomps Dave* Dude, guess what?
Dave: Get off me.
Shael: I just accidentally threw my water bottle at Vicky Harper.
Dave: Get away.
Shael: Don't you wanna know what happened?
Dave: No. Get off.
Shael: C'mon, Dave! Let me finish!
Dave: The last time I let you finish, I ended up picking you up from a karaoke place because you got drunk.
Shael: That was last time!
Dave: And the time before that, I woke up tied up in a warehouse with you because you hit on some gang leader's girlfriend and said it was my idea. And the time before that-
Shael: Daaavvveeee.....
Dave: GET OFF.
Shael: It's different this time!
Dave: THAT'S WHAT YOU SAID LAST TIME!
