  Ari continued scanning the forest, searching for the mysterious creature.  "Please come out.  You cannot just startle us and then disappear.  It is not kind to do that."

"Whether you are startled by me is your choice." Rausse wasn't sure how to come to grips with these creatures, he could only see three of them... They sure LOOKED peacable enough, and he remembered some conversations about a place called Redwall Abbey.

"My choice is not to be startled." Longear answered.

  Adam flew up onto the battlements and scanned the forest.  Like Ari, he too couldn't see who it was that was speaking.  He had a good reason though; he couldn't see as well in the daytime.  "Please come out," he hooted.  "We won't harm you, and I don't think you could harm us, seeing as we are up here, and you are down there."

Zella came walking along the walltops. She looked at Adam. 'What's all this about?'

[W0NWILL]

"Thats Adam, he's visiting. Oh, and some unseen beast is down there." Longear answered. He smiled as an idea came to him,

"Look at you,
Why won't you show yourself,
Are you coming, down with the flu?
It makes me want to kill ones self,
If you are how I picture,
Dear me, it gives me shivers,
I don't wish to give stricture,
But you compare to my livers!
So show yourself to us,
Prove me wrong,
Don't make me guess,
In another song!"

Rausse could smile at that one, "Pity I'm not presentable, I wouldn't want you to spill your liver over such a minor thing." How to tell what they held first and foremost? He never banded with beasts he didn't know would watch and care about each others troubles. He needed assurance that they were morale.

"Thanks, I like my liver."

  Ari wondered how he could get the creature to come out of hiding.  He smiled to himself as an idea came to mind.  He looked into the forest and said to the hidden beast, "Do you want some food, friend?  I am pretty sure that you might be hungry.  We have plenty of food here in Redwall, and we are willing to share."

Score one for the woodlanders, they seemed hearty enough to be trusted, and the two who had been singing were doing it all in good fun... One of the many things Rausse had noticed about music over the years, was that those without morale integrity never sang just for having sung, it always had to have some purpose... Unless you're talking about cruel vermin who sing about torturing innocent beasts for the fun of it, but the sky has no relation to such dreadful things. The wolf finally felt comfortable with these peaceful beasts. He stood up from the shrub he was hiding behind and stated, "Forgive me for the delay, but one such as I must be careful who knows he's about. I'm often mistaken for a fox, so I have had far too many close encounters."

  Ari was surprised, but he had long since learned how to control his facial expressions.  Adam didn't know how to do that, however.  His wide eyes got even wider than they usually were.  "What are you?"
  Ari looked at Adam and cocked an eyebrow.  He leaned over and whispered, "Do not be so rude to this beast, please.  He must get a lot of shock and screaming from his looks, and we want to be friendly."
  Adam cleared his throat and hooted out an apology.  "Sorry."

"So what if you're called a fox? I'm a fox, and I haven't been killed yet."

Rausse chuckled at Adams' reaction... only too common.

"So what if you're called a fox? I'm a fox, and I haven't been killed yet."

"An oddity to be sure."

"Tis not an insult, just seems kind of strange that a member of the vermin species would be living with woodlanders... I'm sure you understand that."
