Just a little thread for homeschoolers. Let's have a conversation.
Yus.
I'm not doing my homework right now. :P
It's break time for me.
I'm done with school for the day! :D
Lucky ducks.
HOMESCHOOLERS!!!!
I am a homeschooler.
;D
Wow! There's a lot of us!
I'm a homeschooler too! :D
There's a couple more, I believe.
There's actually a very high percentage of us if you were able to look at, say, a pie chart showing how everyone around here has been schooled. Kind of to be expected though because Home schoolers are much more likely to pick up and read a book than are the public schoolers.
Redwall dose attract a Homeschooling crowd more so than other books.
I'm home schooled
Me too! isnt it awesome when you finish school by noon?
Homeschooler here!
Yeah! *fist bump*
I'ma homescool. :P
What are we gonna do now
*fist-bumps Skarzsy*
I got my drivers license today! Finally. After much trial and plenty of error... (The trial was more for the other guy...)
Nae 'omezchooled, but zometoimez ah vizh ah vaz. Ach!!!

Lulz. I actually managed to wreck (and total my grandfather's vehicle) on the way to my test the first time. :P It was pretty epic.
An zey're givin' ye a licence after zat?!
Eh, did some community service, the wreck didn't go on my record. That was months ago, anyways. (I kinda wimped out on the whole 'driving' thing for weeks, but then I lost the job I had that I could walk to, so I needed a way to get places.)
Ach...

I just ask my dad if he needs help with work. ;D
He's a general contractor, and some of the jobs he gets are pretty gnarly. At leas 12 bucks an hour. Yeah, buddy! ;D
Haha. If you get paid, it isn't community service. *shrugs*

Watch out for parallel parking. It's a doozy.
My brother told me that.
He's right.
No kidding. :P
Well, I failed. :( better luck next time, eh?
Aww...
Yeah, definitely. Get lots of practice!

:P
I'd have failed the parking if I hadn't yonked my sister's really small car. :P
I didn't have to parallel because the dude doing the test couldn't find a suitable case for me to do it, but that helps to balance out the fact that I was driving a 15-passenger van. :P AKA: Gus AKA: a tank (Griffen's name for our bus).
Haha, wow. That's epic.

I am old enough to take the permit test where I live but I haven't yet. I had a bad experience with a go cart when I was 10. Crashed into the wall in the only place that there was only concrete. I was very shaken up and still don't want to get behind a real wheal. :P not fun...
I've had some interesting experiences.
Nearly drove a dirtbike into a lake.
Drove an ATV into a lake.
Launched off a jump, crushed the ATV and nearly broke both my legs.
Nearly wrecked my cousin's sweet truck when he was trying to teach me how to use the stick shift.
Crashed a riding lawnmower into blackberry bushes. A freaking lawnmower. (is ashamed)
Sounds like you like to wreak things
Wasn't a matter of liking to, but a matter of inevitability.
So you have to wreak them

WOAH! We own a 15 passenger also 'cause there's ten of our family. Martin's definitely not taking that to the drivers test :P

That's Mister Walking Disaster to you.
I built a cart out of a lawnmower engine- until I crashed it and it caught on fire.
Lol.
Okay, this has gone so far from homeschooling.
Hey, Skarzs, don't fel bad! I drove into the woods and nearly crashed into a tree driving a lawn mower once, and my dad, (Who was behind me, since it was my first time driving, not steering) LAUGHED! Yes, LAUGHED!!
Yeah. I homeschooled till 3rd grade, but I was doing 7th grade math by that time...
Whoa.

I don't know about that...
First time driving solo today! I did fine, until I locked my keys in the car.
My cousin locked her keys in her car she was out there for like a hour trying to pick the lock then a neighbor came out and was trying to prie it open and after that we left
Ha!
I mean *ahem* How unfortunate.
I'm still several years off being able to drive. The thought of driving terrifies me- I don't think that the danger of roads are appreciated as much as they should be. I mean, yeah, there's loads of safe drivers, but the inherent danger of multi-ton pieces of metal moving at sixty miles an hour... That doesn't really ever go away. No matter what.
I don't think I'll have too much trouble learning to drive, though- My guess is I'll be terrified a lot, but still able to keep some semblance of control of the vehicle. I think some of it I'll really enjoy, and some of it will really scare me.
The hardest part for me, though, will probably be learning how to get places. I have basically no sense of direction, I could navigate you about three places- And only then from one to the other.
I'm several years away to but I want to drive
I was stuck for three hours, until my grandfather came and broke in. He was pretty annoyed.

It's pretty scary when you first get out on the road, but after a while it gets easier and less horrifying. About the navigation thing, you sound like my sister! The first time we went to visit family in a big town (she was 17, I was 11, and it was just the two of us), my brother had to make her hand the phone to me so that he could direct us, because she thought that when we went across an intersection, we automatically got onto the road indicated by the sign on the light. (As in: We were on Gobbledygook Ave. and there was an intersection with Egghead Drive, she thought we had gotten onto Egghead Drive when we were really still on Gobbledygook Ave.)
Wow! This topic really grew in the few days since I started it.

We have a 15 passenger also!
We have a 7 passenger minivan
So, now that we've pulled this topic completely off the road (punpunpunpunpun), what do all of you want to do with your futures? Homeschooling changes a lot of stuff as far as college and such. It's not as easy to get accepted into colleges, nor is it as easy to be hired by corporate companies.
I would like to go to a trade school and get a two-year degree in cosmetology. After that, I can earn money to put myself through a makeup artistry course.
I want to take some college classes, like chemistry, higher math. . . stuff.
As a job, I'm interested in becoming a welder. I'm good at it and I enjoy it.

Fun.
Welding, huh? That's a good trade. In fact, I think having a trade is better than going to college and getting a fancy degree. Too many people do that nowadays, so people with regular trades are valuable.
Not only that, there are fewer and fewer people willing and able to do work like welding or carpentry. They're all going into computer stuff, and sciencey jobs.
Right? That's why trade jobs pay lots. :)
Public schools these days are teaching towards college and fancy learning jobs. There ought to be more emphasis on trades.
Hey, don't diss computer jobs :P Bay Port's kinda funny, they actually have classes that allow you to go into a welding job right out of highschool, it's really popular too. They also have Engineering course (which I've taken).

Wasn't saying computer jobs were bad or not important; indeed, nowadays they have grown in importance. I'm just saying that other jobs that should be important are put aside.
Knowledge is important, no matter what job you take; and I for one don't want to know only welding. That is why I am going to take other classes. And my dad is a 'Jack of all trades', so I learn a lot from him.

Yeah, no dissing. I just wish there were more opportunities for students who want to have a trade instead of pushing them to go learn ergonomics when they'd rather be a carpenter or professional zip-liner (not really a job...)
I would like to have a degree in something computer/smarts based someday, but that comes after makeup artistry.

Let's all party! We shall call it, The Celebration of the Homeschoolers!
*Quickly eats all the cake within reach.*
Hey you all keep at it, I graduated from being home schooled so it is possible.
I'm rooting for you all!
And I want some cake :(
I was partially homeschooled
Been homeschooled my whole life, but for high school it is going to be full online
Oooh, really? That is almost exactly the same as me. How are you doing online?

Oy, relax man. It's as fun as I'll get out, but I don't find it practical. (Or thrifty, to say the least.)
Speaking of firearms, I learned how to take down our .22.
Back to less controversial subjects,
I learned about standard deviation.
I also learnt the theory of master keying. It's very interesting. (You have a piece of paper with heaps of grids and you have to figure out every possible combination your lock could be changed to and write it down)
That sounds....time consuming to say the least.
How exactly does a masterkey work, if all the keys manipulate different tumblers?

Chemistry is not a fun thing.
My experience with chemistry was when I ran out of ADHD medicine so I tried to make my own and ended up creating a condiment that will do... not nice things.

Maths is really fun, when not confined to simple classroom stuff. For example, if you know how to do most of the things, the UKMT maths challenge is great. There are other versions for other countries. Also, the lower level of the second stage is called the kangaroo for a reason I can't remember at this moment in time.
The worst subjects for me are art and PE. Also dance and drama, but I don't have to do those anymore, luckily. Sadly they did a weird thing with my year: instead of having us choose our GCSE subjects in year 8 to start in year 9, they made us choose 'mini options', between tech, music, drama and dance. You put them in order, with one being the one you most wanted to do and four being the one you least wanted to do. I put tech first, then music, then drama, and last (and definitely least) dance. I prefer music to tech, but I knew I'd be practically certain to get music (I do all the music clubs and play violin), and I hate drama and dance. At least I still get to do some subjects I would otherwise have dropped, but it's annoying.
Why am I talking about school in a homeschoolers thread when I've never been homeschooled?

Maths can be fun when you apply it but learning it from a textbook is negatively boring. I learnt how about fractions and multiplication by doubling and tripling recipes, mostly biscuits. (cookies, for Americans)
I enjoy most of those subjects but I'm not very good at PE and I'm
terrible at art. I LOVE drama, dance and music, especially dance. I'm not a huge fan of tech, however. (By tech, you do mean computer stuff, yes?)
I don't know but you're welcome to keep talking. It's rather interesting.
No, I mean food tech or wood tech (aka home economics or carpentry). Computer stuff is literally computing. Of course, if I take it for GCSE (which I plan to), it will be computer science.
Oh, in that case, I love doing both. What is your favourite wood finish?
I don't know... I only do it because it's fun and way better than dance or drama. Not because I'm actually interested in it.
Oh. That's... disappointing. What stuff are you actually interested in?
Books.
...fair enough.
Do you want the whole long list?
Yes. (though it might be a good idea to put it in a spoiler)
Seb, you never told me you were homeschooled! Whoo hoo! There are so many of us here!
Some of my cousins go to school now. They're coming over from England for Christmas, so if my cuzzies have turned into screen-addicted teenagers, I can harass them out of it. ;D

I suspected you were. I approve of your spelling. *high fives Booklover*
My mum, one of my brothers, and I were all born in England. My dad was born in South Africa and my three other brothers were all born here in NZ.
I have...*counts in head* eleven cousins in Britain. Five in Wales, six in England. I also have two cousins in NZ.
*high fives Ebantu*

*high fives Ebantu and Booklover*
I have three brothers and six sisters.
Correction. You have one brother and two brothers-in-law. *Highfives everyone who has annoying siblings*
As far as I'm concerned, the only difference is that you don't have to put up with them while they're growing up. Brothers-in-law are still brothers, whether they like it or not.
I feel sorry for your brothers-in-law. You put baby chickens all over them and stir you tea for ages just to annoy them.

*high fives everyone who has annoying siblings and loves them regardless*
That's me. I always love them, I just don't always like them.
I think that's a fair summary of most siblings' opinions of each other.
*Feels incredibly blessed with my family.*
Compared to other people, my brothers don't seem that bad. Doesn't stop them being annoying, though.
Yeah, your brothers are awesome, as are my siblings. They're just doing their job, really.
Yeah, I would be concerned if my brothers stopped being annoying.
While we're on the subject of families, do any of you spontaneously start singing The Magic School Bus intro songs with your siblings for absolutely no reason at all...or am I alone?
Yeah, we randomly sing songs all the time. We also randomly start talking in Lima Speak.
I would, but then my sis would sing Taylor Swift songs. I just know it.

Who was it who said that there wasn't an 'awe' in it, but siblings were definitely some creatures?
That would be Skarzs, and I think he might have said it about sisters, but he might have generalized it.
There's plenty of awe in Ebantu's brothers, especially for me, who has only had to grow up with one brother and, consequently, doesn't have any experience when dealing with boys.
is 'awe' meant in a good way, or a bad way?
It's meant in a 'slightly scary but I still love it' way. (which is basically what 'awe' means)
Mm hm.
It is completely positive and slightly bad.
Ohhh......ssuuurree.
...are you meaning that in a 'sarcastic, I don't believe you' way or a something else way?
I...don't....really...know...to be honest.
I think the first half was belief, but the second was added for fun.

No. I refuse, I'm busy reading Redwall books and LotR
Plus Return of the Temujai and half a dozen other series. Besides, shouldn't there be forty-two books?
Why?
Discworld is a satirical fantasy series by Terry Pratchett.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a sci-fi trilogy (in four five six parts), originally a radio series, by Douglas Adams.
They are a little different.
*shrugs* Alrighty then. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is on my list of books to read. Discworld is on my list of books that I would read if I had the time but I probably never will.

A princess who wants a pet pig for her ninth birthday. It's not exactly character building literature but, at the time, I loved it.
Huh, interesting... What was the first series that you got into? Ranger's Apprentice perhaps?
Yeah, Ranger's Apprentice. I've never really got out of it.
I think Redwall is a better series than Ranger's Apprentice, and Brian Jacques is a better author than John Flanagan. But I still like RA better (just a little).
It doesn't stick to the tropes as closely, and the humor is(was) a little more relatable.
Redwall is a better series, Brian Jacques is a better author and I like Redwall better. (I still like Ranger's Apprentice though)
Traitor. (that was said quietly; I value my life. Just a little.)
