If your egg isn't hatching (especially once it gets to be less than 4 days remaining, it won't hatch before that), or you don't want to worry about putting it in a signature, you can stick it in one or both of these sites. Just wait at least one day after getting it 'cause if it gets too many too quickly the egg can get sick. ;)

Don't worry, there's like over 100 breeds at this point! xD I've been a member of the site for three years now, so I've got all but two of the very rarest breeds and two of the ones that were newly released a week or so ago.
Yeah, there is indeed no magic number. 1000 views is a good estimate for a dragon to grow to adulthood. Views/unique view ratios factor into it too, and clicks help but aren't necessary (I've raised plenty of dragons with just one or even none). The important thing is you don't want the views:unique views ratio to exceed 15:1, because that can cause them to get sick I think.

3 days 11 hours is still plenty of time - 4 days is the absolute absolute earliest it possibly could grow up, I mentioned it only so you don't expect it to happen before that. You've got quite a few views and a ton of clicks, so you can just leave it for now, it looks fine. If its gender doesn't settle by the time it's "1 day x hours", then that's when you need to start worrying - and then you could put it in some of those sites I linked to earlier; there's also this site (http://www.jaemeia.net/er/) which is an "ER" for eggs that are low on time and need to hatch/grow.

That's true. Still, both of you try registering for the forum, though (there's also a link in the top-right of the forum saying "resend validation email") - they'll ask me whether it did that for both the site and the forum, or only the main site (since they're seperate accounts/logins). If you're able to log into the forum and are only having trouble on the main site, then you can post on the forum yourself, it'll be a little easier than going through me. ^^

Purple dragons have an action called Fertility, which allows them to make one other dragon more likely to have an egg next time you breed it.

Red dragons, being a warm/fire-themed breed, have the ability Incubate, which takes off 1 day's time for the egg to grow up. (Say you use it on a new egg; instead of saying 7 days left it'll say 6 days left.) If you have enough views, this means it'll be able to hatch a day earlier than it otherwise would have, since it'll get to the "4 days left" mark sooner.
Like I said, I'll be willing to breed pretty much anything if anyone asks; you can click on my egg, and then my username on the egg's page, to see all my dragons. Probably not the place to look if you want adult dragons to be a surprise though. ;) (Or once you think you've found every type you can on your own, I can surprise you with something you don't have yet!)

Don't worry, they don't get any bigger than Dannflor's grown-up one and the ones I posted above. We can fit three in a signature, so maybe if three grown-up ones were each on their own row then that'd be getting tall, but it's definitely not bad if they're all in one line.
The grown-up dragons are already too big; hatchlings and eggs acceptably fit the required size limit.

Once your egg is a hatchling or an adult, you can name them, but note that if it says something like "The ink fades as you write", that means the name is already taken - every dragon on the site must have a unique name. I name a lot of mine based on their appearance, or else each dragon has a unique 5-digit code (you'll see it in the URL at the top of their page), so often I'll come up with a name based on that code. For example, klfA became "Kilfaria", DRNUK became "Almost Drunk", "mATT" became "Matt the Dinosaur", MwF1 is "Mwafi", etc.

By the way, as far as dead dragons go-
- Dead eggs/hatchlings will remain on your scroll for 2 weeks. Also, if an egg is manually killed, it'll count as one of your 4 eggs for one day after its death.
- There's no real penalty for using the kill action (apart from having a dead dragon on your scroll), but note that you have 5 uses before you have to wait a couple weeks.
- Hatchlings/adults have a chance of dodging your attack when you try to kill them. If they do so, they will continue to do so for the rest of the day. You'd have to try again the next day.
- If you use the Kill action on an egg, there's a chance of it hatching immediately instead of it getting smashed. This usually is only successful if it's got enough views/clicks and if it's closer to the end of the 7 days.
- The "Revive" action can do one of three things: make your dragon disintegrate, bring it back to life, or bring it back to life as a Zombie dragon. Normally it's like a 1% chance to become a Zombie, but on Halloween it's a 50% chance. I think Zombies take away kill slots, though, at least they used to. (So if you had 3 zombies, you'd only be able to kill twice before having to wait.)

- Dead eggs/hatchlings will remain on your scroll for 2 weeks. Also, if an egg is manually killed, it'll count as one of your 4 eggs for one day after its death.
- There's no real penalty for using the kill action (apart from having a dead dragon on your scroll), but note that you have 5 uses before you have to wait a couple weeks.
- Hatchlings/adults have a chance of dodging your attack when you try to kill them. If they do so, they will continue to do so for the rest of the day. You'd have to try again the next day.
- If you use the Kill action on an egg, there's a chance of it hatching immediately instead of it getting smashed. This usually is only successful if it's got enough views/clicks and if it's closer to the end of the 7 days.
- The "Revive" action can do one of three things: make your dragon disintegrate, bring it back to life, or bring it back to life as a Zombie dragon. Normally it's like a 1% chance to become a Zombie, but on Halloween it's a 50% chance. I think Zombies take away kill slots, though, at least they used to. (So if you had 3 zombies, you'd only be able to kill twice before having to wait.)

That was probably it then. I double-checked, and if it dies of "natural" causes (sickness/out of time), the message is "Unfortunately, this egg/hatchling has died", whereas if it's killed manually (Kill action, Earthquake action), it's "Unfortunately, this egg/hatchling has been killed". You should probably make sure you log out when you're done with the site to be sure it doesn't happen again. :(

EDIT: I've found out that when you click on an egg on a scroll, all your dragons, hatchlings and eggs get a view.
So if you want an egg to get a view, you have to click on the scroll an then on the egg!

You can also give your dragons views by clicking on them. It doesn't have to be someone else!

Yup, pretty much - looking in each section and stalking the Abandoned page. There's also threads on the Dragcave forum, so maybe you'd be lucky enough to get into a waiting list or if you catch something interesting then a trade. It might take you a very long time to get one of the super-rare breeds; I've just been trying to collect a full set of male&female adult/male&female&ungendered hatchling for myself, but my Silver only breeds silver about once a year and my Gold has only produced one gold egg so far so it's not a very fast process.

Chickens, Dinos, and Leetle Trees (if you mean this (http://dragcave.net/view/6OlM) one) appear in the Cave at any time (Chickens in any section, Dinos in Jungle, Leetle Trees in Forest), they're just really rare. You can only own 1 Leetle Tree.
As far as the Easter eggs, that's a holiday event. DragCave celebrates Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. There's a special release of a holiday dragon that lasts only for the day (and you can breed eggs of the past years' special releases - normally if I were to breed, say, a Yulebuck and a Red, I'd only get Red eggs for the rest of the year, but for one week before Christmas they would produce Yulebuck eggs). You can only own two of each holiday dragon, except for the Halloween ones because Halloween is about getting all the candy for yourself. Apart from the special release, here's what they have had for each holiday (they might choose to do this again, or something different):

Valentine's Day - Last year, he had a Valentine-sharing system: you chose a background and a preset message, and you could send it to a specific friend or just any random person.

Easter - For the last two years, we've had a Festival of Eggs, which is where every ten minutes or so, a random egg (which doesn't grow or hatch or anything) appears somewhere on the page, and you just collect them to add to your Easter basket.

Halloween - If you kill a dragon, when you use the Revive option, you have a 50% chance of it becoming a zombie, rather than the 1% it is the rest of the year. Zombies are visible all day. (Normally they're only visible at only 12-2 am EST, or all day on the 31st of the month). One year, he did "Trick or Treat", which was just like the Festival of Eggs except with Halloween treats. Last year, he did this cool little Haunted House thing, which was a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story: you'd go through this "house", making decisions on "do you want to go up the stairs to the balcony, or outside into the garden", collecting items that you'd use later (like finding a key that would open a door), and eventually completing the story.

Christmas - The special holiday dragons are available for three days rather than just one like the Valentine/Easter/Halloween release. One year, he did a Christmas tree - during the 12 Days of Christmas, each day you logged into the site and clicked on your tree, you'd get a couple ornaments to decorate it; after January 1st there was a contest where you could rate how trees were decorated, and the winners got a prize dragon (this (http://dragcave.net/view/V0pJt) breed, which fortunately is breedable). Last year, there were quite a few things: a wreath-decorating thing similar to the tree but without the contest; a "Holiday Tales" book which released a dragon-themed Christmas story (like The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol, The Night Before Christmas, etc) each day. The dragons on your scroll also looked different as "dress up" - they'd be wearing lights, tinsel, etc.
Holidays are pretty cool, especially the last two years. I'll let you guys know when to start preparing for Halloween. ;)

Yup. Only if it gets like under 2 days then you should worry. It's completely normal for them to not have gendered even at 3 days left sometimes.

Just so you all know, the Halloween event will be coming up soon! Grab any other eggs you want now, and stop catching eggs at the 16th. That will give your eggs time to hatch before the 24th. Why the 24th? Because that's one week before Halloween, and it's the ONLY time that Halloween eggs from past years breed - they're pretty rare. So what you'll want to do is, like I said, stop catching eggs at the 15th. Your eggs you've caught before then will hatch, and you'll be left with four free spots to catch eggs. So, starting at midnight EST on the morning of the 24th, look on the page of abandoned dragons, and keep an eye out for old Halloween eggs! Otherwise you'll need to wait till next year.
I will try breeding some and gifting them to you guys here as well, so stay tuned to this thread. ;)
And we'll need to just wait and see what he does on the 31st itself. There's always a one-day-only Halloween egg release that day, so make sure you've got at least one egg spot open then; I'm not sure what he'll do apart from that.
Trisscar, here's a site you can use to get them to hatch. Stick them in there once you've had the egg for at least a day (if you put them in too soon, they can get sick and die from sickness), and just having them on the site will be enough to let them hatch/grow up. This is the one I use. I've already added those current three eggs, since you have "accept aid" turned on, so you don't need to worry about those, so just for future reference. ;)

Rules:
- Only 1 request per person.
- I can't guarantee that a breeding will be successful, unfortunately, and there is only ONE chance to produce these eggs per year. Be forewarned that being on the list doesn't guarantee you an egg. :( The purpose is just to know who to give the eggs to if I can produce them this year.
- Once I produce an egg and PM you with the Teleport link, I will only hold onto the eggs for about 1 day; if you do not respond/claim the teleport link by then, you forfeit the egg.

And we'll need to just wait and see what he does on the 31st itself. There's always a one-day-only Halloween egg release that day, so make sure you've got at least one egg spot open then; I'm not sure what he'll do apart from that.
Trisscar, here's a site you can use to get them to hatch. Stick them in there once you've had the egg for at least a day (if you put them in too soon, they can get sick and die from sickness), and just having them on the site will be enough to let them hatch/grow up. This is the one I use. I've already added those current three eggs, since you have "accept aid" turned on, so you don't need to worry about those, so just for future reference. ;)

The old Halloween eggs? I'm going to try and breed my Halloween dragons from older years, and if they produce eggs, I'll give them away on this forum in the order people request a breed. So if you look on page 12, I've got lists of who has requested one so far. If my dragons produce eggs, I'll give them to the people on the lists in the order requested. (To give an egg to someone else, there's a type of dragon that has an ability called Teleport that allows you to send an egg to another user - the one receiving it must click a link. So I'd PM the link to the person.)

The old Halloween eggs aren't breedable yet, so you won't find any on the Abandoned page yet. (And that's also why I haven't sent any PMs yet). Everyone was expecting it to start on the 24th, since it's 1 week before Halloween, but I guess he was one day late on it last year too. So tomorrow's when you're gonna want to start looking for them.
When do halloween eggs show up?
In about two minutes (Midnight EST), if people are right in guessing that it's tonight, is when the past years' dragons will first become breedable. You'll find them at any time between then and Halloween on the Abandoned page. The new Halloween eggs appear in every section like alpine/desert/etc at midnight EST the morning of Halloween itself. I'll edit this post to let you know if they're breedable yet or not.
EDIT: The old dragons are now indeed breedable. Here's what's going on this Halloween -
- Old Halloween dragons are breedable for the week
- 2012 Halloween breed will be released on Halloween itself, one day only
- "Choose your own adventure" sort of event
- "Trick or Treat" event
- Dragons on your scroll will be wearing Halloween costumes

Just a reminder - this year's Halloween eggs start in a little over an hour (12:00 am EST)! They last only for one day and will be released in all sections of the cave at the top of the hour, every hour. The drops usually only last for 3-5 minutes, so be sure to get there right at the start of the hour and be fast! ;)
Also, don't forget that the Trick-or-Treat and Haunting in Aliset stories will be done after Halloween's over, so be sure to finish those too. There were 59 Trick-or-Treat items last I heard; I think I've only got about 3 or 4 to go.
EDIT: Nevermind; the new Halloween dragons have been postponed to Nov. 3 from midnight EST to 11:59pm EST, since so many people are out of power thanks to the hurricane. The other Halloween things will still finish at the end of Halloween like normal though.

When you first join the site, you can have a maximum of 4 eggs. When you get 50 dragons, you can have a maximum of 5 eggs. The silver trophy (200 dragons) lets you have 6 eggs at a time, and the gold trophy (500 dragons) lets you have 7 eggs at a time. I have the gold trophy, so I can have up to 7 eggs.

You might want to double-check that you don't already have a teleport set up - click "Account" then "Active Transfers". If you can't see them there, then probably the best thing would be to ask on the Dragon Cave forum.

Yeah, the last two years they've done a decorating event - a Christmas tree once, and a wreath once - so you have to log in every day and you'll get ornaments each day. Unfortunately, if you miss a day, you miss those ornaments. They've done some other stuff too - prize dragons (for tree decorating one year and just as a random drawing one year), dragon dress-up, dragon-ized Christmas stories such as "A Christmas Carol", etc. And of course there's always the new Christmas dragons, and the drop for those lasts three days rather than 1 like every other holiday. You can only get 2 of each Christmas breed, though; Halloween is the only holiday where you can get as many as you want; the idea is that while holidays like Christmas are more about sharing/etc, Halloween's more about being greedy and getting all the candy for yourself.

Purple dragons have an action called Fertility, which allows them to make one other dragon more likely to have an egg next time you breed it.

Red dragons, being a warm/fire-themed breed, have the ability Incubate, which takes off 1 day's time for the egg to grow up. (Say you use it on a new egg; instead of saying 7 days left it'll say 6 days left.) If you have enough views, this means it'll be able to hatch a day earlier than it otherwise would have, since it'll get to the "4 days left" mark sooner.
Like I said, I'll be willing to breed pretty much anything if anyone asks; you can click on my egg, and then my username on the egg's page, to see all my dragons. I do have a 3rd-gen Thuwed though, so I'm pretty proud about that.
(For those wondering, "Dorkface" and "Thuwed" refer to lineages. Some members, just for fun, like to breed their dragons so that their lineage link has a cool pattern (like Jetthebinturong's Neotropical egg there) or they like to breed offspring of popular dragons. "Dorkface" refers to any dragons descended from this one gold dragon named Midas Dorkface, it's a popular lineage for some reason, and "Thuwed" refers to dragons descended from the site owner's dragons. He names all his dragons in Saurian, a fictional language from the StarFox games, and "thuwed" means "dragon" in Saurian. So, anyway, if you have a dragon that is part of these lineages, the proper thing to do is to put the lineage name in the dragons' name. For example, I've got an Aeneas Dorkface and an Aurella Thuwed.)

"Dorkface" refers to any dragons descended from this one gold dragon named Midas Dorkface, it's a popular lineage for some reason, and "Thuwed" refers to dragons descended from the site owner's dragons. He names all his dragons in Saurian, a fictional language from the StarFox games, and "thuwed" means "dragon" in Saurian. So, anyway, if you have a dragon that is part of these lineages, the proper thing to do is to put the lineage name in the dragons' name. For example, I've got an Aeneas Dorkface and an Aurella Thuwed.)

One thing you can do so that we can view/click your dragons, is on Dragon Cave, click "Account", then "Account Settings", then check "Display username on Dragon Info Page", and make sure "Hide Scroll" is NOT checked. Then if you have a dragon in your signature, we can click on that, and on any of your dragons' pages, it'll have your DragCave username so we can view all your dragons. (Like mine - on each dragon it's got my DragCave username, Dawnwing28, that you can click on to view all my dragons.) It's always easier when someone has their scroll visible. :)

Yep, a brand new breed, first time in the Cave. Just one new breed this time (usually he releases multiple breeds at once), they're appearing in the Desert section (usually at the top of the hour - go to it and start refreshing at xx:59 each hour, they're gone in less than 2 minutes and you have to wait another hour!) New releases usually drop for one day, but like I said they've been going quickly - regular releases like this are usually harder to get than holiday releases.
I need to get one! If I don't get one this morning I'll have to wait a long time. Are these dragons only for Black Friday?

I went on at 3:30, and quickly went to desert. There were some of the new eggs, and I tried to grab one. I was to late.
Well, if you guys aren't able to grab them, I'll breed mine once they grow up. (My policy for the most part is to collect a full set before giving eggs away.)

Every five minutes, 3 eggs will appear there, so that's probably why you saw some then. That's not very many, though - you'll probably have better luck at the top of the hour; the start of every hour is when they've got more.
I also went on it at 4:00, and I clicked eggs ten times! I missed every time, because my computer is sooooo slow! :(

Well, all holiday breeds are considered rare since they're available only once per year. Two-Headed, as well as the hybrid breeds (i.e. Bluna, Shallow-Water, Geode), are considered uncommon.

You have to have an adult of all three Trio breeds, and then you can try once every 2-3 weeks. Even if you try every time the option becomes available again, it can take over a year to get one. I still dont' have my 2nd one (you can only get 2) and I've been trying ever since they first created Summon.

Nope, usually they start a 12-days thing (tree or wreath decorating, it's been in the last two years, where you have to log in every day to recieve ornaments). The old Christmas eggs will start one week before Christmas, midnight the morning of the 18th or 19th.

Well, I don't really count for the "how long did it take", because I grabbed mine the first day he started re-releasing them and they were the only thing in the Cave (like a regular new release).
Yeah, I guess he must be doing something different last year. Looks like last year they announced the Christmas stuff on the 14th, while the year before they released it on the 18th. I'm sure it won't be any later than the 18th, as that's when old Christmas dragons will be able to breed again.

Check what Redwaller said; if you're sure you have all that right, then make an account on the DragCave forum and ask in the Help section. If you try to make a forum account and are unable to do that either, then I could ask for you.
When I created my sister's account, I kept on trying to do this one username, and it wouldn't work. Then, I changed the name, and it worked! Maybe that's you proplem?
I changed the name, I entered an email address, I said that I was 13 or older, I accepted the terms and agreements, I put in the password and put it in again, and yet it still won't let me register! It doesn't say I'm doing anything wrong, it just erases my password, unclicks the two little boxes and erases the security image thing.

It takes four days for an egg/hatchling to hatch/grow. And the clicks, the more you have, the better. If you want to be sure your dragons don't die, post them here: valleysherwood.com. I always use this one to ensure my eggs' safety. :)

Like Redwaller said, just post it in sites. I use http://lair.silverdrak.de/ . It'll hatch in less than 7 days if you have enough views (each breed and each egg is different. Clicks aren't necessary - you can raise one with 0 clicks without difficulty - but they help; it's the views and unique views that matter most.) The soonest it can hatch is with 3 days 23 hrs left. You'll generally want to wait at least one day after getting the egg to put it in a ton of sites, though, because getting too many views too quickly could make it sick and kill it.
I don't know how I do it, but I always post my eggs/hatchlings on a website and not one got sick! :D
Dawnwing are you doing the same thing for the christmas dragons as you did for halloween, if so I'd like to request a Holly in advance so that I don't miss it because i probably will XD

As I said to someone who asked me via PM, the only way I can give out Christmas dragons is if I happen to be online at the same time as the person who wants one. Halloween is not like the other releases; for Halloween you can get as many of each breed as you want. For Christmas and Valentine's Day, you can only have 2 of each breed. I already have 2 of each Christmas breed except Holly. So if I breed another one, I will be able to "keep" one egg... but if I don't Teleport it to someone (or they don't accept the Teleport) within a certain amount of time, I believe it was 1 hour, then the egg is automatically abandoned. So for Christmas and Valentine's, I won't be making lists or anything, not reserving a certain breed for a certain person. Once breeding starts (which for some odd reason they haven't announced yet), it'll just be if someone's on at the same time as me and they PM me.
The eggs are out!!!! And the event is holiday cooking!
EDIT: I'm trying to get a Holly dragon, but they're so hard!

Yep, it's the second-rarest breed on the site. It was the very first holiday dragon, back in 2007 when there weren't many members. Before the 2009 event - after the Hollies had had one year to breed - there were only 109 Holly dragons on the whole site. (Consider that the forum has over 55,000 members and there's many more site users that don't have a forum account.) They've been breeding for a couple years now, but they're still pretty rare. I've been trying to get one for three years now.

A different ingredient appears every 10 mins or so - just like the random Halloween items that appeared everywhere.
Once you collect all the ingredients, it'll be red-star recipe cards (you can't make the recipe until you get the card, and if you create a new red star recipe you get an entry in a drawing for a new prize dragon).

Nope, breeding has ended for Christmas dragons. Well, you can breed them but they'll only produce the eggs of their mate; no Christmas eggs till next year. Plus, even if it grew up before the cutoff date, if it was born this Christmas season it's set so that it's not breedable until after the Holiday breeding cutoff.

Like Redwaller said, it's an adoptable-pet sort of game. You "steal" dragon eggs from a cave, and you have 7 days to get enough people to view and click on them (by putting them in your signature on forums, on sites made for it, etc) to make them hatch, and then 7 more days to get them to grow up. It's mostly a collect-them-all thing (there's over 100 breeds), and you can also breed your dragons and trade them with others. There's usually special events for the holidays, too (for example, one Christmas had a tree-decorating game, and Halloween has had a "choose-your-own-adventure" sort of story.)
And it's all entirely free. There aren't even any sort of "premium" memberships or anything, and the owner has no plans to make it that way since he doesn't like such things. The only "paid" benefit is entirely optional - you can pay around $5 to have ads removed from the site for a year, but since there's only one ad at the bottom and it's fairly unobtrusive I don't even bother, and it doesn't affect the game at all. :D

You can't anymore. Frilled and Bright Pink dragons are retired breeds (they don't appear in the cave and they'll never breed their own species), both because the artists were tired of people complaining about them being super-common and being the only thing sitting in the cave at all times. The Bright Pink artist actually had a bit of a fit and wanted all of the dragons she drew taken down from the site (so other people would have to draw new versions, which would have been most of the dragons on the site at the time - even now, three years later, a quarter of the dragons on the site were drawn by her.) Fortunately the site owner managed to talk her out of it and just retire the Bright Pinks so that they're no longer available.
The only way you could still get a Frilled dragon is to win the Christmas drawing and choose a Frilled as your prize instead of the new prize dragon; the Frilled artist allowed that, but the Bright Pink artist didn't.

I'm not sure. I know that there was a glitch long before I joined where any dragons bred with Hollies would produce an ungendered Neglected, but I don't know if that's the only way you can get ungendered ones.

BSA stands for Breed-Specific Action. Certain breeds have a special ability they can do; for example, Pink dragons will let you influence an egg to be male or female, and Magi dragons allow you to trade/send an egg to another user. I describe all the actions on page 4 of this thread.

It depends on what you have it set at. Go to Account, and Account Settings, and one of the options is "number of dragons per page". I have it set so that I view all scrolls at the maximum, 500.

Why can't I have over 6 dragons
When you first join, you can have up to 4 eggs at a time; you'll be able to grab more once they hatch. Once you get 50 adult or frozen hatchling dragons, you'll get a bronze trophy on the top of your page and be able to have up to 5 eggs at a time. The number increases twice more after that - silver trophy at 200 and gold trophy at 500.

They're brand-new and there's only 20 of those new silver prize ones on the entire site. Compare that there's several hundred Holly dragons and they're the next-rarest breed and still hard to get. And that there's over 55,000 users on the site - so there are probably over 500,000 dragons of the common breeds such as Mint dragons. That person will be able to get any trade they ever want - people will trade them neglecteds and golds and silvers and stuff, several at a time. And then each of the people who got those eggs gave away their first two eggs as well, and so on. So the population was increasing by double each time around, but still it took months.

Yep! That's one of the previous Christmas ones (2010, I think?). That particular breed is usually called "Snow Angel" by everyone.

Did you notice that there were loads of rares and uncommons in the AP yesterday? I managed to snag a pillow, a bluna, an ember and a purple which I abandoned in favour of a heartseeker

What about White dragons? Because I recently got one of those, along with a Moonstone dragon.
White dragons are considered common, I believe. (More toward the "uncommon" side of common than, say, Mint or other breeds, though.)
They're one of my favorite breeds; they're just so pretty! I bred most of my Valentine dragons with White dragons this year.

People always abandon most of what they have on there scrolls, be they rare or common.
Rare/uncommon ones tend to crop up more around holidays for some reason, people usually abandon them more often around that time. Probably making room for new/old eggs from that holiday, since the holiday ones are rarer, would be my guess.

I've got lots of favorites. Royal Blue, White, Golden Wyvern, and Rosebud I think are my top favorites. They're all so pretty.

I think that It would be a good idea if they just had an Action button that said 'Ascend' once the dragon was a certain age. Not all the dragons would have ascended sprites (although I hope Electrics would, cos mine deserve it), just the ones that the spriters could do. Maybe the button could have a small fail rate? Nothing approaching the fail rate for Summon. Just a small one.
Anyway. RPing. Maybe we should have six towns for the six habitats? When you post in the RP thread, you would also post what town and what section of town you were in (ie: Aliset: Marketplace). This would allow people to know where you were so that if they were nearby you could talk to each other.

I had good luck on DragCave today! Summoned a Guardian of Nature and bred a Silver egg! After breeding it, I was wondering when my dragons last produced a silver egg, and it was exactly one year ago today - and that dragon ended up being the one that laid the egg today. So that was kind of funny.

Possibly, after I freeze the hatchlings I want. I still need a male Thunder and female Silver. With the Thunders, it's that they simply won't produce a Thunder egg. My Silvers have been unusually productive lately, but I can't seem to catch that perfect few hours - I've been trying for ages, but I swear they seem to go straight from ungendered to adult! I've even started naming a couple after my failed attempts; I have two female adult Silver dragons named "They Grow Up So Fast" and "Can't Freeze Them Fast Enough". xD
Got all the new breeds except the third one of Day 5.

I managed to get all of them. I wasn't sure I'd get day 7's, because my dragons weren't ready to hatch yet. I managed to snag two tonight though.
I only have one of Day 7, but I'll be able to get more by breeding.

Shimmer-Scales are really rare? Huh! I just kinda stumbled across it, lol. I had no clue what it was! :P Um, I suppose I could give you guys Shimmer-Scales, but I only have one and it's gonna be a few days before he can breed again. I'd LIKE to have two before I give any away, just so that it doesn't take me as long to get Shimmer-Scales ('cause, y'know, there's the off chance that you get a different breed, and I hate it when that happens ;)). So it might be a bit, but yeah, definitely you guys can have one!
Breed it with a Holiday dragon(So you can only get a Shimmer) And influence it to be the opposite gender that you have. :)

But if you breed it with its opposite-gender child, the eggs will be inbred. Other than that, though, breeding it with a Holiday is a good suggestion. :)

To be honest the only time you NEED to be online is when you get the eggs seeing as you need to put them up on sites or in signatures to get clicks (if you don't do this they die) but some people like to name their dragons and give them unique descriptions.

I tried to breed my Coppers; no eggs this week. I've got one whose cooldown ends in two days though so I'll try again soon.
Pumpkins cannot be bred until the week before Halloween. They're an event dragon - there's Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine dragons every year - and therefore can only breed once per year, the week before the holiday itself. I'll probably do the same as what I did last year: shortly before the event, I'll take a look at my dragons and predict how many I'm going to be able to breed, and then let everyone make one request in the case that my breedings succeed.

A Guardian of Nature. You have to have a Magma, Ice, and Thunder dragon, and then use their ability Summon. It's got only a very small percentage of a chance to work, you have to wait a couple weeks before trying again, and you can only get two of that breed altogether (so make sure it lives if you get one!) It took me a good 3 years to get both of mine.

I don't know how long you were away, but there's always a new release on the first Saturday night/Sunday morning of each month, at midnight. Unless the Saturday is the last of the month and the Sunday's the first - if that's the case, it's pushed to the next week.

Question: So, I got a Bone Marrow dragon egg, but it says that the dragon is sick. It's barely one day old and has maybe a hundred views, no more. Is it normal for this type of egg to be sick? How do I cure it?
Yes that is normal, what you should do is use the hide action of that egg and once the message goes away from the top of your scroll you can unfog it.

That's what happened to me when I first started. The trick is to find some click websites. the ones I use are Valley Sherwood, Egg Drop Soup, and Draghatch. Basically its a website where lots of people 'put' there eggs so they get lots of clicks and views. By the way have you had a look at my scroll? If you have are there any dragons you see that you like? I feel like giving some eggs away so..
But where's the fun in those sites? Bubbly-Butt did just fine here. The only reason my others died is because since I can't paste, I couldn't copy and paste the links into my sig.
We already had an existing Dragon Cave topic, so I merged the two together.
I joined Dragon Cave the other week, and my first egg is beginning to hatch. SO EXCITED!

Just offer some random egg. Doesn't have to be any good. The Red dragon egg may not look special but it's part of the St Claire Line, so if you get it please put St Claire at the end of it's name. Also the black Dragon is part of the well Known Dusk Line. There'll be more in a week.

The collect-'em-all aspect is probably the most fun - people feel the same about Pokemon, for instance. Trying to find which ones you don't have and being excited when you finally get ahold of that uncommon or rare that you wanted. And when you're new to it, and don't know what the eggs turn into, it's cool to see their adult forms and stuff. And of course there's minigames during the holidays.
I get to beta test the dragon encyclopedia. :D I was one of those lucky randomly-selected people.

The only dragons I've had that have died are the ones that I accidentally killed. (Accidentally as in I smashed an egg, thinking that I'd have an open slot now that one of the dragons died. The other was one that I thought I could raise back to life with a different dragon, but it appears that I was not thinking correctly. :P)

Does that really matter? I try to go for stuff that looks interesting rather than rare. It being rare is a bonus but not really a requirement. Everyone starts off with common dragons, don't worry about it

Every time I refresh the page, my eggs and hatchling each gain another view. Every time. And I'm pretty sure you can't give views to your own dragons. I do have them in rotation on Egg Drop Soup, but that doesn't explain it. 'Cause when I'm on dragcave.net/dragons and I hit refresh, they don't gain views like that.
What's really odd is that I'm only viewing my scroll, not a dragon itself. Anyone else experiencing this glitch?

@I just tried it out. You're right. Apparently we can give clicks to our own dragons somehow.
Didn't you know? You can click on your own dragons. When I get bored, or I'm waiting for someone to post, I go, and click my dragons. But you can't just sit on one page, and keep clicking it though. You have to go to a different page each time, or it doesn't work.

I just came up with a naming thing for my Dragons. They all have Latin names that describe them.
I try to name them based on their code with a few exceptions. Some I name after dragons from my own stories and some I already had a name for as soon as I saw them

Yup, I know. However, this is such a nice forum that I doubt anyone would take an egg meant for someone else, and in this case, there wasn't time for anyone (guests included) to do that anyway. Rach claimed the egg literally less than two minutes after I posted the claim link.

My Magi's now fully grown, but I still don't understand the whole transporting thing, though. :-\
With trading and transferring eggs, you go to the Magi's actions and click the teleport option. From there, you enter your password, choose if you want it to be a trade (two-way) or a transfer (one-way), then you click on the egg you want to give. After that, you click the teleport button, then it'll give you 3 codes. Choose the one marked for forums, which is the one closest to the bottom. Then you just give that code to the person you want to teleport the egg to, and voila! Your egg has been transported! :D

Once you have at least two adult dragons (male and female, of course), go to the 'Actions' page for the dragon you want to breed. Click 'Breed'. The rest is pretty simple. You aren't always guaranteed to get an egg, though.
Oh, another thing. When you're going to breed, make sure you have room for another egg on your scroll. You're only allowed four eggs at once, and if you breed when the max amount of eggs has been reached, the bred egg will be auto-abandoned.

Well, I make them with GIMP, a free art program, and modify existing sprites for dragons. The body is actually a slightly modified and recolored Harvest Dragon, with a different dragons wings.

Wait, which dragons were you trying to breed? I'm pretty sure two-headed dragons can't breed with regular ones.
I was, and I have a deep-sea one that I was trying to breed.
The way that breeding works is that if you have two-headed dragons, they can only breed with other two-headed dragons. If you have wyverns, they can only breed with other wyverns. I believe pygmy dragons can only breed with other pygmy dragons as well. A deep-sea dragon is one of the "normal" breeds, I believe, and it can only breed with other "normal" types, such as thunder, magma, or any sort like that. Pretty much, if it has arms, one head, and isn't tiny, it classifies as something that can breed with deep-sea. I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I suck at explaining stuff. :P
I can't breed dragons because there aren't any to breed. But I have lots of dragons. I don;'t get it.
Hrm, if I could see your scroll, it'd probably be easier to figure that out, but otherwise, I'm not quite sure. Have you tried breeding with different dragons, not just with one type?

I also regained interest in Dragcave this year. I'm currently stalking the Halloween biome for an Omen Wyrm.

I managed to snag a CB Omen just now! Still can't believe it.
The trading section is really fun - people often give away free stuff. I just saw someone giving away a CB Omen, but it's already gone. :| I did make some excellent trades yesterday - I got a silver tinsel, a golden wyvern, and a pyro xenowyrm that someone was practically giving away!
Between yesterday and today, I managed to snag a CB of every Halloween dragon I was missing except for Vampires, which unfortunately don't drop in the cave and are available year-round. Unfortunately, with the egg limit I currently have, I doubt I'll be able to catch both genders for every Halloween breed this time round (I only have a single dragon/egg of each breed). I'll try for the new breed though, hopefully all the eggs I have right now will have hatched by then.
I wanted CBs for all my dragons, but usually I just cave and grab AP eggs when it comes to rares. That's all of my Xenowyrms, my Legendary Trio and most(?) of my Zyumorphs. It's easier for me I suppose because my goal is only one of every sprite that I like, but it's a bit frustrating when you already have a dragon of one gender, and then every egg you pick up genders the same. I foolishly traded a Silver Shimmerscale for a Zyu I didn't have, because I was in contact with someone who was going to breed me a Silver Shimmer, so I was confident that, though it might take a while, I would eventually get one. Unfortunately she hasn't been online in ages.
That's awesome that you got all the CB ones! I'm not nearly patient enough right now to wait for a bunch of cavies to hatch and unlock my scroll. I'll probably end up getting some good APs.
I'm pretty lax when it comes to what eggs I choose, and I'm not a member of the forums or anything, so before I studied the trading section, I didn't even realize that people prized CB over lineaged dragons that much. (Though it obviously makes sense.) I kinda like lineages, though. It's just cool to look at the family trees... although I've sadly discovered inbreeding in the ancestry of several of mine (thanks to a handy inbreeding checker on a fansite). :P
I'd be happy to create a vampire egg for you when the Halloween craziness is over! Just tell me when!

Nah, it's super basic, but fun. You just make an account and collect dragon eggs. You put them on click sites so they get views and clicks from other people; that's what makes them hatch. Eventually they'll grow up and you can name them, breed them with each other, and collect other dragons and so on.

You should join. ;D There's always a couple of brand-new dragon releases every month! All the dragons available vary in how common they are, and it's extremely fun to try and find rare eggs before someone else grabs them. Special rare-ish holiday dragons are always released around main holidays (there'll be a brand-new Halloween dragon released on October 31), and people also breed their holiday dragons from previous years and abandon the eggs around these times, so it's pretty easy to grab fun holiday eggs.
Oh, yeah, and since it's not really a game in the typical sense (it's just a website where you collect little pictures of dragons that you can name and breed), it doesn't have to take up much of your time. You can just log in, grab your maximum four eggs at a time (the limit increases once you raise a bunch of dragons), put them on one click site, and pretty much forget about them.

So I don't know if anyone follows the DragCave forums, but some information that was released with the release of Siyats and Mimic Pygmies got my fanfiction brain buzzing.
Basically, Siyat dragons are social creatures, and have a hierarchy based on the colour of the dragon. Greens are the most common, and thus the lowest on the social ladder, blues are basically middle class, and the purples are the nobility. Siyat colour is determined by how long it takes the egg to hatch, i.e. the incubation period. According to the creator of the dragons, the purple Siyats are vicious tyrants who will forcibly remove green and blue Siyat mothers from their nests to prevent them from incubating their eggs long enough for them to turn purple. It gave me this idea for a fanfic where a green couple has an egg in secret and tries to raise it as a purple, but the purples find out and take the egg from them, but it's already too late for it to hatch blue, so they raise it as part of the aristocracy. Later in life, the adopted purple learns of its past and goes out to find its parents, and start a revolution from within.
And of course that made me want to go back to my old fanfic and rewrite it to be better. Or at least use the characters for something new. And with all my new dragons that gives me ideas. Like I can see my Xenowyrms being the revered protectors of certain areas. Something totally terrifying and mysterious that other dragons don't understand.
So I guess I might do that.
Also does anyone want to talk about how they name their dragons? I have a system, but I kinda don't want to reveal it, even though it may be pretty easy to work out, 'cause I want to keep it unique to me. It works well 90% of the time, but sometimes it produces some really bad ones.
